  • radiator keeps blowing all the antifreeze into overflow.

    i fixed the spark plug issue, now i keep loosing all my antifreeze into the overflow.i thought that when the coolant gets low in the radiator it suppose to pull it from the overflow.i didn't even go half a mile down the road and it has filled up the overflow(twice). do i need a new radiator cap?need some advice.TIA.

    Check the cap and the hose going to the overflow. If the hose has a pinhole, it will suck air instead of coolant.

      true, same thing if the cap is broken, it may only purge and not suck in coolant.. happens with the IC cap often.

        It sounds to me like you blew a head gasket and are pressurizing the rad.

          Blown head gaskets are very uncommon in SyTy's. I suspect that there is some air in the sytem maybe? Try jacking up the front of the truck and then fill the radiator - this will help to burp some air out.

            bad newz must be a blown head gasket.put a new rad cap on and still pressurizing it out.saw some carbon deposits in the overflow tank. should i run it off into a river.

              When it is cooled down, remove the rad cap. Start it up and let it run for awhile. When your thermostat opens up you will see air bubbles in the rad if you have blown a head gasket. Just don't let it overheat while doing this, and be prepared to lose some coolant as it expands.

                i see bubbles lotsa bubbles is a blown head gasket the ONLY possible problem?kinda sucks since the motor has less than 400 miles on it.i used victor gaskets,torqued perfect.deck and heads were checked.what could have happened?

                    that sucks man. it is definatly a blown HG. take it from a guy who changed one in the parking lot at NATS. you HG is shot. it could be a cracked head but you wont know till its torn down again.

                      I wouldn't tear it apart till you know what cylinder it is. Take a compression test. If there are no low cylinders, pressurize the cooling system, leave the spark plugs out and let it sit for a while. Then bump the starter a few times and see if any antifreeze blows out of a cylinder. At least if you know where the problem is it will be easier to spot when you pull the head. It might save you from pulling both heads too. Good luck and let us know what you find and if possible a reason for it doing what it did.

                          blown head gasket on #2 at the bottom into the water passage.
