  • 11.45 @ 117 for $8600 *COMPLETE* Budget & Parts List

In addition to my Complete DIY Vortec heads/cam upgrade Budget & Parts List, here is a 100% complete budget & parts list for every modification/upgrade on my truck since I bought in 2001!

The goal of this build is to go as fast as possible for the least amount of money , still using quality parts. On my truck specifically, I have opted to keep all the stock accessories and full weight. (except the ABS which sucks to begin with.)

    Source: http://www.powertuneplus.com/syclone...117_budget.htm

    Download as Excel XLS: http://www.powertuneplus.com/syclone...117_budget.xls

Basically $4,464.53 for everything except fully built 700R4 transmission ($2800), custom billet 6-lug torque converter ($846), and $500 of road race parts. Bringing the grand total amount I have spent on modifications on my truck since purchased in 2001 to: $8,610.53

Now you know exactly what it costs, so get out there and build one!!

Great job, detailed documentation as usual.

I'm working on my second vortec conversion now, but never stopped to figure out exactly how much $ I've put into them. After seeing your totals, I really don't want to know!

Thanks for taking the time to share. Now how about some Tooky "tuning for dummies" write-ups?

Thats what I think about you spending half as much money as me and going faster. Just kidding well not really though I must say i am pretty envious of your stout running truck but can attest to the fact that it is because you spend a lot of time on it and deserve a lot of props. Here is a more appropriate finger. technically its a thumb and not a finger but you get the point.

Just curious, what are the specs on the cam?

make sure you guys look at the excel sheet carefully, some of the cells have more text in them than may show when you print it out.

Erik Fischer: the specs on the cam are listed in the Vortec heads/cam upgrade Budget & Parts List thread also in Engine Tech. 218/218* 115 LSA with the Comp XFI cam lobes. I wanted something in the 218-224* range with a wide LSA and the XFI lobes, I tried contacting Comp several times to spec one out and they failed to respond to all of my attempts.. I shopped around and E-RUE at TurboTime actually had specs for a cam he'd already tested/drove in several trucks that met my criteria. So I just ordered it from him and you can buy the same cam on his website (www.turbotime.us)

I realize that sounds like a tall tale, but check out this photo from when I just repaired my 700R4 last week:

You can see it's the factory original Dynotech propshaft.

I just took a look at my Datamaster Files folder, it has 1,058 files in it since 2001. Some of those runs have as many as 25 WOT romps each. When I take the truck out I usually floor it several times (I didn't buy it to drive to work or whatever). I did some calculations a few years ago to figure out how many WOT runs I've got, that's certainly over 4,000 but I supposed the number of boost launches is a lot lower. I know without a doubt it's over 1,000. I just got the motor running a month ago and it's already got about 50 boost launches including 8 runs at the drag strip. It adds up fast when the truck runs & drives and I give rides to anyone who wants one (within reason).

Thanks for the compliments, guys. I really had to sift through a lot of old shit to come up with all these numbers. (Timeslips, Datamaster runs, emails, saved files etc.) It makes it worth while to hear that you're saving & printing it out.
