Starter solenoid??

Aight guys, heres what I am running into. The bottom end on my engine is from a 02 Envoy 4wd. The starter solenoid has 2 large post and one small. One of the large post has the lead that goes into the starter motor itself. As it sits, I have the positive lead from the battery hooked to the other large post, and the one wire from the junction block and one from the alternator hooked to the small post. Is this correct? Or does the wire from the alternator need to be on the same post as the wire from the battery?

No. The small post is the solenoid. It is only hot when the key is in the start position to activate the starter. The alt wire goes to the bat usually through a term block to avoid having a bunch of wires at the starter. The term block is fed with the small wire coming off the bat + term. Make sense?

Yeah, that makes sense, but my battery has been relocated to the back. Sorry for not puttin that in the original post. So, the small wire will be on the small post to activate the starter. And I will need to have the alternator wire on the post with + battery wire. Correct?

We're being a bit simplistic but yes. Somewhere, somehow the rest of the vech has to get juice as well.

Re: Starter solenoid??

Ok, no juice to the rest of the truck is the issue I'm workin on. I'm hot to the starter, but nothing coming off it. From what I can tell, I need the + battery wire and the wire to the alternator together on the same post at the starter. Then there is another wire from the alt. to the fuse block that powers the rest of the truck. And the small post on the solenoid activates the starter motor. I think I'm on the right track now. Thanks for the input Don.
