Re: fuel sending units

Yes the stock sending unit is the same as a sonoma or s10 of the same year

Re: fuel sending units

the 13gal tank is about an inch less deep. The sender is different between the 13 and 20 tank. The lines are the same size but do have different angles to them when they come out. Stock lines work just fine still

This is a version of our stock 20 gal sender

This is the FI 13 gal seder that shows the height difference in the output lines but don't worry it will not hit the bed and the stock lines will work just fine

I found the correct 13 gal sender from a 1992 chevy 2.8 for reference

Re: fuel sending units

The other S/T engines (TBI 4.3, 2.8, and 2.5 4-cyl) have 3/8 supply lines all the way to the pump, and utilize push-on hose with screw-type hose clamps. TBI's run at 9-13psi. (edit: At least through 91. Looks like 92-up is all o-ring fittings).
Here is a pic of the TBI 20-gallon truck unit. Note the push-on hose fittings, and sender 'rod'.

Hope this clarifies things. There are a bunch of sending units for 1st gen S/T trucks.

Yep, you can see a better view of the connections on the sending unit that was on my old 1988 2.8 S10 when I installed an MTS plastic gas tank after my stocker developed rust pin holes in it:

"Cheesy "bungless" mount setup (from the factory) on an otherwise well made MTS plastic tank bought from JC Whitney."

You don't want a sending unit that lacks fittings on the top for the fuel lines...

Re: fuel sending units

so the sender for the 13 will work and give us a correct reading on our stock gauges?

Re: fuel sending units

ok so that i think is what i am going to do since my gauge bounces sometimes,i just wanted to make sure the line size etc was the same size.

Re: fuel sending units

The 13 gal sender in a 13 gal is a direct swap. Everything bolts up correctly and the gauge reads correct. You will notice the gauge moves faster than the stock tank since there is less volume to start with though

Re: fuel sending units

but i thought dave said the lines are different sizes?also does anyone have the factory gm 13 and 20 sender numbers?I need a new sender anyways and was going to get a 13 g from the pick and pull so should i just get a stock sender to be sure? or get the 13 and the smaller tank, just want to make sure the line size is the same etc.

Taboo quoting my own post but hey it proves a point. In the first pic you can see the different size of the tube on the feed line of the sender. This is maybe where the confusion you have is coming from. Both senders listed above are direct replacements and are correct for the different size tanks. So decide which tank you want to run, then pick the sender that tank requires. I have no idea what the gm part numbers are but I can tell you this, the only way gm sells them is with the pump and pricing will be significantly more (3-4x) the aftermarket ones. No matter what just cut the necked down area of the feed line and use a slightly longer piece of fuel line and be done with it.

Re: fuel sending units

Question for the sending units. Do you have to drop the tank to install a new one?
