Re: Very interesting oil test article

Shocked maybe, but having been a fan of Shell you could say I was disappointed. I had already decided against Mobil 1 after break-in on my new build. Looks like Royal Purple might be a good choice eh?

I am all about royal Purple have put nothing but Royal =Purple in my cars since 2003.

Amsoil is another great choice. I wouldn't even think of anything but Amsoil or Royal Purple for oil!

Good read, thanks :) ... Royal Purple and Amsoil need to be easier to find , then more people would use them I bet ---

I have been running amsoil in the STi since 35K with out a single issue. I send it out for analysis at every change and it comes out just as clean as when it went in.

Re: Very interesting oil test article

I read somewhere awhile back that that type of test is bullshit and you can get better results with liquid soap(or something like that).

That is not a realistic test. First off there is no pressurization of the lube, so there is no hydraulic wedge to protect the surfaces. Maybe indicative of wear on startup, but that's it.

Read the follow up that was posted a few post after. It explains that the first test wasnt realistic like you stated. Doesnt negate the fact that Amsoil and Royal Purple are :tup:

Also to the person that posted it was hard to find Royal Purple. Oreillys carries it not sure if you have one of those in your region.

Re: Very interesting oil test article

This article pretty much tells the story regarding the changes modern oils are going through...

http://www.zddplus.com/TechBrief1 - Introducing ZDDPlus.pdf

Anyone who has an interest in the longevity of their older, flat tappet engines (cars, lawnmowers, power equipment, etc.) needs to read it... I assume the subject matter of this article may be partially responsible for the results in this thread's test.

This is the homepage for for ZddPlus.... http://www.zddplus.com/ there are a number of articles here that pretty much sum up the situation.

I know this is going to sound like a shameless plug, but starting sometime around March 1, I'll be one of the 3 master distributors for this product in the United States.... I'll be running a banner ad, etc. here on the forum... I'll post the details in a post in the appropriate section as I get ready to start taking orders. FWIW, I'm doing this because I truly believe in the product and the people behind it (I've known them for almost 30 years now).... this will be my second business, and I'm doing it because I want to get out and mix with the car community... the guys and gals I can really associate with, and feel that I'm doing a good thing for. :D

Once again, not a plug... just trying to help - I'll be doing the right thing and paying for my plugs soon!

Re: Very interesting oil test article

wow! I run amsoil in my race cars and have lost oil pressure in a run and not even scuffed a bearing. However I have always used Mobil1 in my typhoon since it's easier to find at local stores. I may have to make the switch, although those test aren't realistic it's still impressive!

Re: Very interesting oil test article

Thats funny, i have about 4k miles on my new ty motor. it has wiseco forged nitrous pistons in it and they are loud when cold. ive ran mobil 1 since new, but last week switched to royal purple and it is much quieter.

Re: Very interesting oil test article

Already using zddplus in my Avalon due some issues they had that year with cam scuffing. Cams were looked at at 100k miles and were fine. Have recommended it to my brother-in-law with 2 old flat tappet cars.

Awesome, glad I made the switch to RP when I had my Mazda. I used to be a Mobil1 guy but that's before I read bad things about em back then. RP = Win.

Amsoil number one for me. In my TY I switched the rear diff, front diff and transfer case to amsoil. I continue to use mobil 1 synthetic in the motor and the tranny fluid is pink and clean so i left it. But i think next steps are going with amsoil in tranny and motor.

I became the dealer and when i started to advertise to friends i had no luck. I think it was a 20 dollar fee to become a dealer for a year. I think i bought enough to last me a few next changes.
