cladding in carbon fiber?

Has anyone done this or thought about doing it? I can only imagine that it would be expensive, but really I'm wondering if it would look good or hokie...

I think it would look good on perhaps a black/black, but I don't know that it would look right on another color.

If anyone knows of this being done, throw a pic up...

you have 4-5k for some cf cladding ? its has been an option for years . it might even be more $$$ than that .

4-5K? I was thinking more in the 10K range for a full kit :rotf:

a new OEM kit could probably reach 4K on its own

What about just a veneer? Like just wrapping the factory cladding with cloth

It would be 4-5k in just building the molds. Me and Ian have made a few pieces from CF a few years back. Its a total PITA and its stupid expensive....and that was before CF prices and resin went out the roof. Overlay would work, but its going to add weight and to me its a waste of time unless your doing small detailed pieces.

If you wanted something crazy, you could always do chromaveil overlay. You can get it in wood grain, desert / war / woodlands camo, water droplets, fish, granite, and faux marble finishes. :rotf:

We did some CF overlay on ians Ty sideview mirrors a few years back. They are still holding up but have taken a beating. Chips and spider cracks from rocks and debris, and they are now yellowed due to UV reacting with the resin.

There is a way to make a fake carbon fiber look for much cheaper then the real thing. I will post up some pictures of something that was finished by my friend.

Edit Post: if I can find the damn pics

The faux CF done with water transfer is the only fake CF that Ive found acceptable. My previous Ty had various pieces done (previous owner) and it got complimented all the time. For it being fake, it was actually nice.

Yea, I guess there is a material you can overlay on top of the object. Then you spray paint over top and clear it after wards. It looks like carbon fiber but its just like a spray paint/clear on top of the object. Trying to find pictures over on the Cobalt SS forum.
