92 Typhoon 1606 Rebuild - LOTS OF PICS!!

Well I’ve been meaning to start this thread since I bought the truck back in November 2007 but never got around to it. Luckily I took tons of pics along the way and now that the truck is almost done you guys get to see all the progress in one LOOOOONG thread lol….enjoy!

A little background on the truck…I am the 3rd owner (originally an OH truck and then brought to WI by a fellow board member Fastsuv). The original owner did virtually no engine mods but decided a massive stereo was in order (eye roll). When I bought it from Fastsuv he had heavily modded the engine/tranny. Complete internal rebuild (top and bottom end),L35 heads, A2A, PTE51, 50# injectors, Ultimate chip, rebuilt 700R4….lots of other goodies I’m sure I’m forgetting! Interior was mint! Exterior and underneath were a bit neglected but being a Midwest truck I knew what I was getting. I bought it with 96k on the clock and approx 10k on the rebuild. Truck ran like a top and was very strong. My original plan was to drive it for awhile and repaint it at sometime….

Well I drove it for about a month and then realized I wasn’t going to be happy unless it was painted. I started tearing it apart in December 2007 lol and am just now finishing it up  Initially I just wanted a repaint but I developed a classic of case of “while I’m doing this I might as well do this…” and we all know how that snowballs…

I’ll let the pictures do the talking from here…

The day I brought it home…

And this is basically how it has sat since July 2008. I had it virtually ready for paint and then opened the hood (mistake) and thought...wow I'm going to have a nice shiny paint job, aggressive stance, vette wheels and I'm not gonna be able to even open the hood because it looked like this...

AC and ABS were the first to go...

So at this point I scuffed and painted everything I could (turbo, inner fenders, brackets, intake, core support), polished the intercooler piping, and basically cleaned everything up as best I could without pulling the motor. Also cleaned up the spaghetti mess of wiring  Lots of new parts at this point too...Edelbrock water pump, RPM dual elec fans w/alum shroud, radiator, Jaz catch can, polished Typhoon plate from UR50SLO, AC delete that Vasplieon did (modified a bit to work...), ABS delete, non A/C heater box, RPM brake booster hose, fabbed up a tranny cooler mount...I'm sure there's stuff I'm forgetting but here is what it looks like today...

Sooo after all that it finally went to the paint shop for a fresh coat of Arctic White Corvette paint from Sikkens. I had a good friend of mine who used to be a painter shoot it. Turned out awesome!

Few spots that needed primed...

Just need to tie up a few loose ends and 1606 will be back on the road! Oh and figure out my oil leak :D

I'm curious to see what you guys think...good, bad, or otherwise. I'm not completely sold on the wheels but will live with them for now. Overall I'm very happy with how it turned it. And considering what it looked like when I bought it I don't think it even looks like the same truck!! Enjoy and remember that EVERYTHING is for sale :rotf::rotf:

Nice job.
For some reason those wheels look good on there. When I put mine on the Ty, I didn't like it.
Maybe it's the curved spokes & rivets that makes those look better.
I think it needs some decals to break up the white a little. Were you planning on putting the decals back on?

Looking good. Not too much more to go. I am in the middle of doing the same with my Typhoon. Nice work and congrats.:tup:

Thanks guys!

4C Fed - ya know the more I look at the wheels the more they're growin on me lol...and yes I have gray decals (the ones from eGay...) that I'm gonna put on shortly. I had thought about leaving them off but it just doesn't look right without them.

IMO.. the trucks look better with the decals on them. I know some people prefer to go unknown but it pisses me off when people think it a "nice blazer". Why encourage them??

Well here's what mine looked like. To me they just didn't look right on my truck. Your's are better looking IMO.

hmmm good comparison pic...it's funny because the second I put mine on I wished I had bought full face wheels like yours. Now I'm not sure I like either of them

Stick with them. Once you get the decals on, tailights on, etc. it will be a nice combination.
