4l80E build list

brock1949

Its alive!!!
So i was working with Blake to build a couple different 4l80e's for different projects and was going to supply all the parts i needed to build my own personal trucks 4l80e etc. Well i'm back to the drawling board trying to find .. Good parts list of what to use for a very solid build AND where to freaking buy them.

Basically my truck is 2wd, I will later be running slicks and the goal is to go 10's or at least very low 11's and still have a truck that i can do club racing with on road courses. I have a 4l60e with 3k stall right now thats still alive with only 39k miles on the clock and transgo kit, servo's etc. but its never had to deal with the new motor/turbo combo. So primary concern is drag strip and street.. drag strip couple times a month and probably road courses etc 2-5 times a year if i stay on my game.

Next question, I have a late model 4l80e already bought for this truck its the one with front and back lube not the one with ports right next to each other or center lube i've been told. Does this mater, is one stronger etc?

Thanks I can use any advice you guys have, Also I will probably be running a nice small light converter from precision on the 4l80E from day one. 3000-3200 precision or yank stall. Either I'm going to build it (not that good at it and need to get better..) or i have a local shop thats good and they will build any of my transmissions for a couple hundred bucks.

The goal is to go 500-650 RWHP later i might switch to LSX build if this motor dies and shoot for more power but i'm not trying to get to crazy.

Re: 4l80E build list

well dont know about center/rear but a 2wd and a 80e at that pony will be easy to keep alive in a light truck. Those are some tall stalls for a 2wd. are you sure you wanna go that high? Unless your going to tub it or run a real slick i think it is unnecessary.good luck

Re: 4l80E build list

Well thats a great point, I haven't bought the converter yet for the 4l80E and probably won't until i get to take this 4l60e out with its 2800-3000 rpm stall and see how it acts with this new motor/turbo setup. I keep getting thrown off a little bit on the advice in this area because some of the road course guys are telling me i need that kinda stall to keep turbo spooled and pulling out of tighter slow corners etc and the rest of the people outside this forum think because its a 4.3 with a 72 i need all the stall i can get lol.

Another question This trans has the bolted in rear output shaft..I'm guessing i need to go back to slip yoke and solid drive shaft? Can i just unbolt the yoke on it and slip in the other style or am i looking at more work then this.

Again who are the parts suppliers out there that have a prove 4l80E parts kit etc. I've been using http://www.700r4l60e.com/ probuilt in cali for a couple years on 4l60e builds.. shift kits to entire "road race" build kits and have had great luck. But now the guys not returning my phone calls for the last couple months..

Re: 4l80E build list

Not sure about the tail shaft but i thought i read on here it is just a simple swap.

Let me ask you this, what are your plans for the truck.Give a breakdown of what you are going to be doing in percentages.

If you need a good tranny guy. He is in San Diego. Chuck, 619-596-0226.

He is going to build my 80e. He wont sell you stuff he thinks you wont need. Good luck.

Re: 4l80E build list

Thanks for the contact info, will he sell a kit for me or my local shop to build?

Basically this truck is not a dailey driver but i want it street reliable so its out on the nice days, driving it to the track etc. The main focus is drag strip time but i also want to do some club racing. I have a buddy who rents out road courses a couple times a year and we get just a mix of cars on the track for the fun of it no time's or races etc just broken down by classes ton of fun. I've got a decent suspension setup now that i've been able to hold my own and truck handles better then expected. C6 vette brakes up front some nice 12" disc in the back throw in some decent track tires and its pretty good setup.

But i don't want you to think primary use will be road courses or else i wouldn't be running a 72 in the first place i'd of stuck with the pte60 or even the blower i ran before that. I just want something tough enough to handle running slicks, and if i even get my crap together low 11's or even high 10's. The main goal at the end of the day is something bullet proof reliable that I can go run the strip every weekend if i want.
