crazy fuel pressure

Ok need help. When I start up my TY the fuel pressure sits around 43psi for about 20 seconds and then it shoots up to over 100psi. I have checked the fuel lines to see if it was pinched off any where but it is not. Any ideas?

Re: crazy fuel pressure

What happens when you don't start it and just hot wire the FP?

My first thought is something is caught in the fuel side of the AFPR but if there is how did it get there? Might be worth a look. While you have it off take it apart to be be sure all is well.

Also maybe a gauge problem?

You might be able to rig up a temporary return line off the AFPR into a bucket or something to eliminate any possible restriction in the actual return line.

Just thinkin' out loud...

Re: crazy fuel pressure

How would I hot wire the FP?
I tried putting a hose on the return for the fuel rail and tightned it as best as I could and all it did was pour fuel all over the place.

Right above the FPR is a female connector just hanging there. Put 12v to that and the fuel pump runs. And I don't exactly how you would make a tight connection at the return off the bottom of the FPR for a test. It was just an idea.

Does this problem happen every time or what??

Re: crazy fuel pressure

Ok I will try that. Yes this happends every time. I did just put a new fuel pump in. I probably should have mentioned that. I put in a Walbro 255. I will go try hot wiring the pump.

Re: crazy fuel pressure

That seems a bit high but if if it stays there it should do the same (meaning a constant pressure) with the engine running.

Do you have an adjustable fuel pressure regulator?

Re: crazy fuel pressure

Your regulator is toast it sounds like. Factory fp should be somewhere around 37 if I remember correctly.

Re: crazy fuel pressure

if you're ever going to upgrade you may as well get an AFPR on there. You'll be able to set it and will know it's good or not easily enough.

Re: crazy fuel pressure

Have you checked the gauge because mine does the same thing so i tried a non elec gauge on the fuel rail and it read fine so my gauge or sender is toast.

I think if it was at 100psi it would smell pig rich.

Re: crazy fuel pressure

I have been using two manual guages both right off the fuel rail. I do plan on doing upgrades I have a T3/T67 turbo for it and I am peicing together all the enging parts to make 600 hp so you are right the AFPR will be the correct way to go.
