new sound..odd scraping

When brakes are warn out, they make a really bad scraping sound...soooo I changed my pads and shoes the other day because I was hearing that sound coming from the front left side.

Check the pics! I don't think there was anything wrong with the old ones! :eek:

Well, the scraping is still present. Forgive the noob question, but AWD trucks don't have wheel bearings in the fronts do they? They are axles, so I wouldn't think so, and I didn't really check. It was a quick in and out job on the brakes. I have since moved on to other projects in my garage so before I clear up some space and check I was wondering if you had any advise. Any ideas on the scraping sound?

Check that you didn't bend the dust cover on the back side of rotor. Its very thin and if its bent in a little bit it will sound just like a worn out brake pad. I've done this a few times doing odd front end jobs. The noise Sounds like a major issue but its usually just the dust cover touching the spinning rotor....

Separate from the scrapping noise, with pads like that I'd be concerned with disk warpage. Were they turned or replaced?

Yeah with that kind of pad wear I'd get your rotors turned, you probably scored them up.
post pics of the rotors if possible

Thanks for the advise. I checked the rotors and they are fine--it turned out that it was the dust cover. I ordered the Baer 4 wheel disc kit but apparently they don't keep stock readily available. They were out of stock and had to "manufacture" them. I won't have them for 3 weeks!

This is just a temporary hold me over until the new kit arrives. I don't think that the current brakes would have made it another day, let alone three weeks.

how much did a 4 wheel baer disc brake kit cost ya? I was going to go with corvette brakes all the way around.

Summit had the kit for about 2K total.
BAE-4302016 - rear
BAE-4301020 - front

Part of the buy is appearance. I like the caliper appearance more on the Baer kit. If I get them and they are not as pictured, I'll return them and get the vette brakes to save some $$.
