Anyone sell IC hose "kits"?

I was wondering if anyone knows of any vendor/member who sells IC hose kits? I am getting ready to upgrade the IC pump and run the rubber hose through the fender (btw, thanks to the archives for the great how to photos).

Its alot easier when someone puts together the right amount of hose, with all of the clamps and fittings, elbows, etc.

I am also thinking of just replacing the heat exchanger while I have it all apart. Can I get one anywhere online or should I try my luck with a GMC parts dept?

Thanks!

Nobody makes a "kit" but it is easy to make yourself. on the heat exchanger side of things, are you talking the lower? if so,DutchTy was making some that were aluminum and beautiful. i have a good condition used one i would sell (stock). comes with the pump (bostch).

I also need to do the intercooler line swap to soft lines, but im going to have my buddy weld an fittings on my upper intercooler and lower. ilike to be custom. :D

All you need is 2 pieces of 3/4" heater hose and 4 clamps. It's pretty straight forward...

Re: Anyone sell IC hose "kits"?

I did mine last year with regular black 3/4 heater hoses. Took an estimate of the length and doubled it. Was just right. Maybe a foot and half more then i needed but no problem. To make the engine bay look more cleaner i decided on buying 3/4 heater hose from summit racing that has a braided silver look to it and also bends more with out crimping. I was hesitant on the bend with no crimps but when i got it they actually were right. You still get a crimp of course if you over bend it but it is more flexable then regular 3/4 hose that i had.

Vinnie, Did you remember how much you ordered? What kind of clamps did you use? Those hoses looks nice. Do you have a picture of the install?
Thanks!

Hatrik i bought the hose last year before the winter and never installed them. I am going to get this done before NATS so i can give you more information when i complete the install which should be soon. i logged into my account on summit racing but the order doesnt show anymore to give you the exact measurement i ordered.

By the way are you going to NATS? :D

Cool. Let me know how it turns out. I wish I could go to NATS. I don't have the time available to take off from work or the money to spend. I'm hoping when it gets a little closer. 15hr+ drive is a bit far. You going?

If I could find someone to watch the kids, I couldn't pay my wife to ride 15+hours in my Syclone. She complains if we drive 15min in it. :rotf: Maybe I should get a Typhoon, then the kids could sit in the back.

HAHAH she complains every 15 minutes haha thats great. When i met her at the meet in CT she seemed positive about the truck and the meets. Well if i dont make it to NATS then i will plan on making some of the other local hooter meets, if any.

talk soon:tup:

I really like the braided lines for looks and function, but if you really want to use standard black heater hose, there are some that have 45/90 degrees molded in them at most parts stores or you can insert copper tube inside the hose and then bend it to fit.

Re: Anyone sell IC hose "kits"?

Just to clarify-- To anyone that has run the lines through the passenger side fender, will 15ft of hose be enough? I want to keep it as far away from heat as possible and I want it to be all one piece.

Thanks

Re: Anyone sell IC hose "kits"?

I would go 20.

If I were doing it again - I wouldn't go through the fenderwell. The associated headache wasn't worth it. It's hard to get it in/out of the fender without using an elbow - I ended up using elbows.

Re: Anyone sell IC hose "kits"?

I had mine done in braided 3/4" heater hose years ago before I went air 2 air and it looked great. I purchased 20 or 32" of it off ebay and used regulator hose clamps and it all worked out great. Im sure if you look on egay it's still on there and prob isn't much more then regular heater hose or at least it wasn't two years ago when I did it.

Which way would you recommend running the hoses then?

Re: Anyone sell IC hose "kits"?

I've got mine through the fenderwell, and love it. Sorry, I don't remember the length. You can look at the pics on my photobucket page... the elbows I used are GM parts made for a Cobalt...ended up working great!

edit... just checked my pics.... I ordered (2) part #39710 from Summit.... 120" of 3/4" hose... http://www.summitracing.com/search/?keyword=39710&dds=1
I'll see if I can find the part numbers for the Cobalt elbows.

Re: Anyone sell IC hose "kits"?

Through the cab. You can put a 2nd heat exchanger in the passenger footwell in a cooler with ice. Better go with 30 feet of hose then.

Who the hell wants to drink warm beer while they are driving??? What a horrible idea:roll:

Re: Anyone sell IC hose "kits"?

I'd route 'em the same way everyone else does - you don't need any elbows. You will need elbows coming out of the fender on the top side.

I just didn't see any benefits (datamaster logs) going through the fender. Just more swearing and swollen knuckles. I'm not saying it's a bad idea - but I don't think there are any benefits that would make me do it again.

Sure - it's further away from the engine.
Sure - you have more coolant capacity (although how much fluid is really in an extra 5ft of 3/4" hose?).

Does the inside of a fender get any airflow?
Does black paint (or any other color car) get hot in the sun?
You then have hot surface on both sides of the hose keeping it nice and warm.

Dunno....

:)
