A1000 bleeds off too fast?

When I go key on, the A1000 fuel pump loads fuel up to about 30 psi. Right away it starts to bleed pressure off, is this normal?

Could be pump, injector, FPR.....

+1 that about sums up the potential causes.. minus an external fuel line leak. But I have a feeling you MIGHT notice that. Block the return line, if it still bleeds off that'll rule out the regulator. Checking injectors would involve lifting the rail out, pressurizing the system, and seeing if one leaks.. However.. If you had a leaking injector it would be running rich all of the time. And usually a stuck open injector will make it VERY rich. (raw fuel coming out the tail pipe, black smoke, etc..) The one way check valve in the fuel pump would be the last thing, and it would involve just replacing the whole pump assembly.

Re: A1000 bleeds off too fast?

Funny, I had the same issue on my build but it was slight, there but slight. I thought after all the work I put in I wouldn't let that stop me at least firing the thing. And, wishful thinking, maybe it was an inj that just needed to cycle a few times. As luck would have it I got lucky after the first fire injs held just fine.

'sides problems listed don't you have a custom setup? External check valve? Take it apart and check for a speck of debris. If not, well I tried.

Re: A1000 bleeds off too fast?

When I had one it did it from day one. installed a complete tank to rail system, new EVERYTHING. just figured that was the way it was so I never worried about it.

99% chance nothing to worry about. Just about any aftermarket fuel pump when not running (key off, engine not running) will not hold pressure.

My weldon pump will bleed off in 2 seconds or so once the pump shuts off. Feel free to check the FPR and make sure the diaphram didn't blow out, but I really don't think it did.

Re: A1000 bleeds off too fast?

FYI - there was a write-up somewhere (not on Syty.net) on Aeromotive AFPR's with poor machining/seal fitment issues. This caused all kinds of troubles, such as not having 1:1 rise with boost, vac leaks, and not holding FP.

If your pump was bad, you start making power, and instead of rising FP, it would level off and then start dropping.

I have an A1000.....I had the original one fail, but that was my fault.

Re: A1000 bleeds off too fast?

The truck has not been fired up yet. I am going through my checklist before start up. Everything is brand new, A1000, lines, rails, AFPR(aeromotive), 75#ers. I have already had the afpr apart and it looked just fine in there. I had the vacuum port tapped 1/8" so I could run my instant fittings as seen here

I am doubting that would cause this but if it is, I can easily make some restriction for that hole. Jeff, I'll take your word for it, I really wasn't bent on everything working like a stock set up. Had I had this issue on my old set up I would have not even posted about it but I have checked everything, smelled afpr, blah blah and everything seems fine. FWIW, I don't plan on burning out my pump for a LONG time since I bought the voltage controller (fingers crossed).

Aw man those fittings are bad a$$< Ive been wanting to do that for a while now. Do you have a list of the fittings that you used and where you got them?

Thanks,

Jeremy

I have an A1000 in my sy as well. AFAIK there is no check valve in the pump to hold pressure. You can buy an inline check valve if you so desire, I was just concerned that it may be a flow restriction.

I just got used to cycling the key on waiting a second for pressure to build then cranking it up.

I'd say its normal.

Re: A1000 bleeds off too fast?

I dont have the pump controller....burned it out due to temporary anal-cranial inversion - had the feed and return lines backwards, and was trying to pump air through the system....before I figured it all out...

Re-reading your initial question, that is how my setup runs also. It will jump up to pressure, then when you KEY OFF, it slowly drops to 0 (about3-5 seconds).

Re: A1000 bleeds off too fast?

It's fine. I have an A1000 and use the check valve. They claim no restrictions with it and it holds the pressure fine.

I also use the bigger brother to the A1000, the "Eliminator" with a check valve on my TT build with no problems.

Without the check valve you will lose the pressure when you turn off the pump.

Re: A1000 bleeds off too fast?

Does yours stage with the relay Mike? If I turn my key to the on position the relay stages mine then stops and the pressure will drop a little until I fire the engine up then it holds steady.

Re: A1000 bleeds off too fast?

Glad to hear this is normal. I think I may wait and see if I end up with starting issues and if I do, I will spring for the check valve. Funny after all the time I have been looking at all this crap, I never have once seen the check valve. I am contemplating sitting down tonight and doing the injectors drivers so I may fire this bitch up tomorrow. Just for a second though.
