Re: Bowling Green SUCKS?????

What about time frame? Is August the best month for Nats? September might be better weather wise, but all the kiddos will be in school and that poses a problem.

Having Nats in August was the #1 reason I could not attend, and therefore it should be changed to a month that accommodates ME;):rotf::rotf:

Im seriously considering flying out to an East coast meet, say a NASTE or FAST gathering, Ive never been out to the east...I need my fix:D

Come to the Shindig in 2010 in Savannah GA!

After experiencing the code59 tech session in BG with kids running amok I am not sure having the schedule when kids can attend is even the best idea, but that's bc I don't have kids. lol
I would prefer to see it scheduled when the weather is best for the trucks, after all thats what Nats is all about.

Bowling Green is fine. Is there a 1/4 mile track in the Nashville area? It wouldn't be a bad area either.

They were supposed to be building one beside Nashville Super Speedway. It been "in the works" for several years now.

My only complaint is someone needs to turn down the humidity in BG. I'm not used to eating my air instead of breathing it.

Mid-June might work better, the only reason we didnt do that this year was because August won in the poll results, plus it gave us more time to prepare this year.

:stupid:

The good thing about bi-annual events is now we have 2 years to plan for the next one. Plus, it gives people time to save up so it's not such a burden to pay for.

May or September maybe? Either may allow for milder weather and less chance of rain.

I too would love for the event to NOT be held during the summer months but I think we are in the minority. Cooler weather and not being able to bring the kids/wife is a double bonus IMO..

I'll allow the Syclones and 93 Typhoons. The 92s can go find their own nationals. ;)

As for the tech session, I think folks thought it was a "mandatory" thing. I was sitting mid-pack and, between kids yelling/running around and people at other tables talking about all kinds of non-code59 things much louder than they needed to, had a VERY hard time hearing what was going on. I'm sure I missed at least half of it - bummer since I'm planning on doing this in the near future and will have to bother these folks more than I should have to.

In the future, perhaps tech sessions can be had in a smaller room with less distractions, and those not interested can find something to do somewhere else? (The hotel has a pool...) I'm not against kids being there, and I'm not expecting a classroom decorum, but - truth be told - not everyone needs to be present for tech sessions. IMHO the large room with lots of distractions kept the tech session from being what it was intended to be. (From what I could tell, the presenters did an AWESOME job!)

Also, parking at the hotel was frustrating. I don't know that we NEED a place with a bigger lot, but [soapbox] if you don't have a SyTy, don't park it with the SyTy's. Trailers, rentals, tow rigs, etc. This wasn't an issue in the past, and I'm not exactly sure why it was this year aside from the limited parking area and folks just scrounging for whatever they could get. Maybe some folks weren't there when Renz announced that folks were supposed to move to the other lot? :dunno: I was trying to get pics for GMHTP's coverage of the Nats, and I had a hard time getting a pic of more than 3 trucks together without something in there that didn't belong. I don't think there will be any hotel pics submitted for magazine coverage. [/soapbox] Assigned spaces!:tup:

I did find the hotel employees very accommodating (aside from Jenna having a b/f), but worth noting is that they didn't have enough rooms for all of us. If the event is to grow, that will become an even greater issue. Yes, there are other hotels within walking distance, but wouldn't it be nice to have everyone together?

The museum was nice. I appreciate their hospitality, but we wouldn't have to do it again as a group event. For future BG Nats I'd include directions on how to get there as a place of interest. I doubt that anyone who went through it this year will go through it again. (Maybe a few will, but not a majority.) I'd much rather see the plant, but I guess we'll see how GM/Corvette/the economy is doing till next event.

Overall, I'm completely in favor of having Nats in BG again in the future. There have always been things that could be tweaked to make the event better for everyone involved (staff included), so please take my suggestions as just that - suggestions.

Again, great job guys!

Re: Bowling Green SUCKS?????

So far I am hearing a few minor "adjustments" but nobody saying it is the wrong city.

Even as a staff person I saw things I would have liked to change during event and for sure after. Basically you guys got an all new committee this year that has a few things to learn/tweak along with a change.

I know for me a few years back I went to KC and left telling myself I probably would not go back. That didn't happen but I surely don't want anybody that did go to feel that way.

There is also the East -vs- West location deal. My personal thoughts are if the West is interested they should have a regional event next year and see what kind of numbers they can draw. Homecoming and shindig are both drawing 30+ trucks, can the west draw that many? If so having a nats in the West is probably a good option, until then I am not convinced and I am from the west originally.

As far as hotel I personally would like to see us book the whole hotel if/when it goes back to BG. If we move to a bigger hotel then our antics could upset other guests and we would be minority at the hotel. We have a LOT more pull with the hotel when we occupy most of the rooms. Jenna is wanting us to come back and ready for us, I suspect we can get the hotel completely booked next time.

If I am involved next time I will be asking others to help out, not as "staff" per se as I know most don't want to be tied down, but I do think most people would take on 1 task. For example the group photo. If we had someone be in charge of just THAT task only during the weekend nothing else I suspect we could find a few people to volunteer. The staff then have 1 less things to worry about and the volunteer isn't stuck as staff all weekend.

Paul, Dig, and myself have not had a discussion post nats but I think next time I would do it at the hotel meeting room and now just concentrate on 1 topic in depth and answer questions. Small room, only those interested. Save others boredom and be much more personable.

Re: Bowling Green SUCKS?????

At the next nats a list of each days activities and what the staff would like volunteers for would go over well . Getting more people involved would help personalize the experience for non staffers and maybe help everyone get to know everyone a little better .

Re: Bowling Green SUCKS?????

Jeff you said a couple of years ago you left KC thinking you wouldn't be going back, why? The hotel, the track, the activities, the time of year? Just wondering.
