rear drum rebuild

I don't think I'll need to go rear disk anytime soon. Not sure if it would be worth the little extra breaking power considering I'm already going ls1 up front.

Want to know if there is any difference between the rebuild kits from say, autozone vs discount or napa, or the other parts stores? Better quality at one or the other..

Also what to look under to get the larger cylinders. Or a part number would be better and where you got them from.

I'm replacing the backing plates, all springs, pads, cylinders, and drums. And going to look into a braided line from the frame end down to the rear.

Thanks

Bump on the cylinders and the rest before I just order the replacements from autozone..

Thanks for the info KDB. As for the disks looking better. You hardly see them behind stock wheels. And I don't think they add that much more stopping power. So its not really worth it for me to go that way yet. I will in the future. Just not now.

Re: rear drum rebuild

I have the bigger bore wheel cyl's on mine but put them on years ago and dont have the info. I'm pretty sure they were from a 5 speed blazer though and I'm running 2 primary shoes on each side for extra holding power.

I totally forgot about the double primary shoes. Thanks for the reminder!

Copied from sytyauthority.net:

Oversized Rear Wheel Cylinders:

Installing larger rear wheel cylinders provides the rear drum some more holding power.
Especially noticable when brake torquing / building boost against the brakes.
A healthy brake setup should hold back 5-7 PSI before creeping forward.

The Syclone rear wheel cylinders are the clip in type, whereas the Typhoon wheel cylinders bolt in.
For the Typhoon GM part# 18015812, 7/8 inch piston with bolts, for a 1995 Blazer manual trans.

Michael Hood at Tucker Auto Parts can get you all the parts necessary for this upgrade.
