pppssssshhhhhtttttttttttt
Hey Guys , I just got my truck back on the road after sitting for a year and a half. It used to clunk hard, and shake once in awhile.
Now its shaking nonstop , until I get into boost then it smooths out until the boost stays constant. Imagine being on a medium rock sized gravel road going 25 ... when everything vibrates ... or like a washing machine on spin cycle multiplied by 5!!!
Is this a sign of a bent propshaft? I would guess this because it happens in drive OR neutral, and I figure it smooths out during hard accelleration because it probably balances itself a little? Its also the heaviest thing that spins and could cause this vibration. It also seems SLIGHTLY stronger and noisier on the drivers side, but shakes the entire truck.
I used to think it was a transfer case problem, but that was mainly because of the clunking. I think the clunking was caused by a slapping serpentine belt ( I just got it changed and havent heard it since ... about 20 miles though, lol ).
I dont want to take the truck to a mechanic with no direction for him to search for a problem. I have a gilbert, so replacing the prop wouldnt be a big deal ... I just dont want to pay to change the prop, then have to pay again when its the transfer case. Even vice versa, I would hate to get the transfer case taken out and inspected if its fine.
I live in an apt. complex and cant do ANYTHING without management threatening me.
THANKS for any and all opinions
