Running a Vortech in a 91

I have a 91 s10 4.3L and I just picked up a Vortech motor. My problem is that my TBI intake wont fit. what can I do. Can it be modified? Is there a company that makes a intake for this?
Thanks in advance.

I think I asked something similiar to this a while back and basically the answer is no you cant modify it and yes you can buy a new one, Edelbrock I think

Edelbrock only makes a carb intake for the vortech not a TBI but I'll keep looking

Then you have to run a adapter i think they said, I could be way off base though bro.

O well at least I will runnin the new style motor with the counter balance shaft. less vibration

Re: Running a Vortech in a 91

you can run the edlebrock 2114 manifold for vortec heads and a holley TBI to carb adapter plate. this has been done a bunch of times successfully. you'll have to get rid of the EGR though

I am going to see if I can modify the stock intake first. I can weld aluminum so I will give it a shot.

Hopefully you can machine the intake after welding also.

But you are on the right track.

Edelbrock does too make a TBI intake for the N/A Z code 4.3L I have one on my truck right now and it is $115 new from Summit.

What do you mean by a N/A Z code 4.3L?

N/A = naturally aspirated
Z = 8th digit in the VIN indicating the motor code or basically the high output vortec engine
4.3L = engine size in liters also known as 262cu. in.

well more specifically TBI manifold he is talking about will bolt to 95 or older heads, not the 96+ vortec heads you are trying to run

Re: Running a Vortech in a 91

so basiclly I can't run the vortech heads without opening up a big ass can-o-worms
so my best bet is to run the 98 bottom end with my original heads.

Re: Running a Vortech in a 91

that would be the easiest option, not the best performance wise if that matters

Re: Running a Vortech in a 91

well of course performance matters but i dont have a lot of options. I live in california with smog laws. but edelbrock make a 50 state cam and headers and intake that i can use with the no-vortech heads

Re: Running a Vortech in a 91

I have a extra flange to put TBI onto a 2114 intake id sell for like 30 bucks shipped. Let me know if your interested in going this route, i can help ya out some with the conversion i did it about 3-6 months ago on my truck with the first build.

Re: Running a Vortech in a 91

Hey there is one of the non vortec intakes for sale on the s10forum for 50 bucks, and my adapter puts the TBI on top. Its the 2111 intake.

Re: Running a Vortech in a 91

just run the 2114 intake and an adaptor for the TBI and youll be very happy with the performance and yes you will need to get rid of the EGR but as long as the truck is running good and not to rich you should stil pass smog with no trouble.

Technically with cali smog you will have to pass emission req for the newer engine not the truck, technically.

Re: Running a Vortech in a 91

Re-Tap your heads to match the vortecs and weld the inake to cover the runners.Of course, weld and machine it first. This is what I did and it was a fairly simple job if that's all I had done. I also added aluminum material to raise the intake 3/16 to better align the runners. Like JSM said, once it's welded, get it machined back down and enjoy.

Note, get prices for the machineing first. I heard from $25 a side all the way up to $150 a side. Could get real expensive real fast.
