Intercooler flow

Re: Intercooler flow

yeah if it draws from the top you might run your pump dry and burn it up. i know it sounds like it makes more sense to feed from the bottom and draw from the top cause hot water rises and cold sinks but it's the way it goes

pull the water from the bottom or you will suck air and it wont pump. and you'll get micro bubbles inside both your cores that will take days to knock loose.

Re: Intercooler flow

The pump draws from the bottom of the IC rad, as it should. I have mine configured to pump the water coming -from- the IC pump into the bottom of the IC. From the top of the IC I go back to the top of the IC rad. Works well once I get all the air out which is still a PIA but easier with this system, I think.

Well, I guess I meant to say the upper IC. Does it matter if the feed is in the top port or bottom port? Guess I should have clarified.

Re: Intercooler flow

Doesn't matter if you keep the system full of fluid. If it's low on water and you suck fluid from the top outlet, you'll be sucking air into the lower I.C.

Re: Intercooler flow

I just did this and i am thinking that for the same reasons as for the lower, you should draw from the bottom of the IC (upper). That will prevent air getting in.

I found that pressurising the system got a lot of bubbles out and saved me a few days of burping.

Will wait and see.

Re: Intercooler flow

I'm sorry guys but i read this post a few times and i still need some clarification I just replaced my sterring box and i had to remove the front IC.

I was planning to run brand new hoses from the front IC to the top IC and take out the tubes that are between them that are located on top of the motor. It seems that they might conduct heat and i have seen a few guys run new heater hoses with those tubes removed.

Now the question is the top of the front IC rad goes to where on the top IC. Is it the top hoes on the front IC rad go to the top inlet of the top IC?

thanks

Re: Intercooler flow

Bottom of the IC (upper bit on engine) goes to the top of the radiator

Bottom of the Radiator then flows to the pump...

Output of the pump goes to the top of the IC upper.

Hope this helps...

This should clear things up.

I have seen this pic before and is the routing the same w/o the AUX IC? Out to AUX back to upper IC?
