You guys who have the custom fuel rails, do you have to anchor that to the intake somehow? How about the FPR? I'm considering doing a custom rail setup for my build.

Well most guys will drill a small thru hole in the bottom half of the fuel rail where there is a good amoutn of meat to drill thru and not worry about any fuel leaks and then just bend a thin tab of metal to go down to one of the manifold attaching bolts and ther you have it a secure mounting for the fuel rail.

On the intake i posted it has mounting boses cast in, but as far as i know i dont hink Holey ever releashed a set of specific fit fuel rails for the intake, so i believe just drill some holes thru the fuel rail stock where the boses are and put some bolts in there and your done. There are several ways you can do it.

As far as the FPR goes, you cna get a set of aluminum fuel rails from either JSM or RPM that are made to fit in place of the stock fuel rails and use a stock type regulator, or you can get a set of universal rails and mount your regulator on the firewall, and use a universal type like an Aeromotive EFI reg. Dual side inlets and a single bottom return. Again there are several choices, just depends on the look and how much you want to spend.

One other option you cna do if youe wanting the aluminum big bore rails and brainded hose look is to go with this kit from RPM, it has everything needed and is a pretty deal price wise, once you start buying all the an fittings they can get expensive quick.

You can also get just the fuel rails from them for use with the stock type FPR for 199 or you can get just a set of fuel rails that use the external universal regupator for 99 bucks. With no fittings or hose. And ive seen on ebay they sell universal fuel rail for 12 bucks a foot where you can drill all the injector holes and everything to make them work.

Syborg Twin Turbopersonally i like Mikes option and it has the potential to look very nice

Thanks for the positive feedback. The BBK TB wouldnt have been my first choice either, as it kinda looks ugly in the pic, but for the price its a no brainer over an accel or MSD or any other one for 150-200 bucks more, and it used GM semsors to where as some use ford style sensors. Also i think the round plenum will look killer in a different color with the fins polished. Might even look sweet with the edelbrock finned aluminum valve covers.

Well ive made up my mind and am going to build this setup i posted above, and may even go ahead and install it on the stock heads first along with the FMIC air/air custom setup im going to build with 3" charge pipes. Just to se if there is a performance advatage over the stock intake setup.

It wont be for alittle while, but i have just bought the FMIC and will start fabbing the charge pipes here soon, and then ill be buying parts as i can afford them.

Still not sure which intake to use the Holley or the Edelbrock. Is it easier to have the Holley welded up to cover the ports, or have the Edelbrock welded up with new injector bungs????????? Im thinking the Holley since i can get it for 100 bucks cheaper than the Edelbrock, and really alot less mods needed to it, just a reweld and we know that is an easy procedure.

Well wish me luck, and also good luck and ill be following your progress as well.

Re: Intake Option For Vortec Heads

I'm gonna stick with my stock fuel rail for now. I decided to use the stock intake, and have been working on porting it for the last week or so after work. I'm really laying the injector boss back. I want to get it back together during this spring break. I'll post pics sometime.

hey John, if you go with a 90mm TB you will be astonished with the extra hp you will get out of it

I am not sure if I agree as I have the 75mm on my current build and have no loss of boost on the big end. I think the smaller TB may help the low end tuning. Be interested in ideas as to why the bigger one if I am missing something.

10.20 οn 275/40/18 street tires. We saw significant hp increase during many tests in different cars with bigger diammeter tubes and TBs
Tuning was easy with my build . I only had to add some extra fuel @ tps rate of change
Just an opinon....

I've got it done to mine, but in adding it all up, I have spent quite a pretty penny in doing the conversion. It also means a bunch of custom tuning and wiring and moving everything around. I hope to get some pics up this weekend or beginning of next week. Is it doable...yes.

Put some pics up of this intake you've done. I'd like to see how it turned out.

maybe if you have 4" intercooler piping.. a 105mm throttle body will not flow any more air through a 3" pipe then a 75mm, so you have to ask yourself what the restriction is.

a 75mm is good to 1000hp on a v6. We've done it. We run 90s on our outlaw/radial turbo small blocks that make ~2000hp.

Any updates on this yet?

This is just a pure day dream idea here. Have you guys thought about maybe doing a design kind of like the Edelbrock RMP Air-Gap style intake? Would this not help that "crashing" effect? (Assuming there is one) I know that would be getting into the sheet metal intake cost, and fab work. But its just an idea.

(call me stupid for even thinking about it if you'd like.)

I dont know the dim's on the intake, but it looks like the runners might sit up higher on the air-gap intake vs a normal one. Which you would think would have a smoother flow into the heads, yes/no?
