WRX and Cobalt SS killed

Got a couple of kills for you guys. I was messing with a guy in a new WRX and he must have thought he was the shit cause he came across 2 lanes to line up next to me after I messed with him. I launched pretty hard and took him up to 100 mph. He stayed a car and half all the way. Those WRX's are pretty fast.
This next one is a pretty funny story. I was riding around with my loud mouth friend again and parked next to these to newer cobra's. Well my budyy starts talking to this guy about his car. Its always funny to talk with people cause everyone talks such bullshit? He proceeds to tell us his cobra runs 11.5 and his clutch is messed up? Then his buddy comes over and tells us how badass his cobra is and its not running right? What smack talkin!!!!!!! So around and around we go and none of them want to race. So his buddy shows up in a SS Cobalt and he wants to race. That race was a joke. I let off halfway down the road. The guys ended up being pretty cool.

My truck is pretty much stock. I have all the free mods. Johnson IC, pitbull chip, KN open element filter.

Re: WRX and Cobalt SS killed

I would call a Supercharged Cobalt SS slow. They run 14's stock, which is none too shabby. No match for a good running SyTy, but still far from slow. They did, however, make non-supercharged Cobalt SS's that are just a 2.4L with either an auto or manual. The autos are slow as hell

Re: WRX and Cobalt SS killed

I don't get it, why would they get the SS badging without the performance??? Wannabe ricers will buy anything nowadays :dunno:

Are the Colbolt SS's supercharged? Or only a select few have them. Maybe he did have a supercharger??? I dont think he did it wasnt much of a race I got off the throttle half way down the road cause he was way behind?

Re: WRX and Cobalt SS killed

In '05, all of the SS's were supercharged. In '06 they released a non-supercharged SS that was powered by a 2.4L I4, instead of the 2.0L I4 in the S/C'ed ones (both Ecotec motors). The non-supercharged SS's are still faster than a stock Cobalt (powered by a 2.2L Ecotec), but still not fast enough to earn the SS badge IMO.

Did you ever get the kit... stage II or III or whatever? Get that pocket rocket of yours into the 13's?

I hear GM testing is getting 300hp + out of the 4cyl Ecotecs... possibly putting them in future Sky Redlines/Solstice GXP's.

Re: WRX and Cobalt SS killed

Just finished installing stage 2 a few hours ago. She is leaving shortly to have the dealer reflash the computer.

She is still learning to drive the car (and a stick), so she isn't running at the cars full potential.

There are rumors of the 260 HP Solstice GXP Ecotec motor (2.0L turbo) making it into the Cobalt SS's in '09

Re: WRX and Cobalt SS killed

When my cousin had his WRX he was always talkin crap to me about my Sy about how it would a be good match. Finally I told him to shut up and get in. We did a small launch of 8lbs and he said he felt like his chest was gonna collapse. He never talked crap again and always refused to race me. He now has nothing but respect for SyTy's, lesson learned. Good kills, and it sounds like it was a non-s/c to beat it that bad. The supercharged ones are decent but you still woulda beat him by quite a few lengths.

I would not mind a Cobalt SS s/c for a DD, but I think given the choice, I would take an srt4. I have heard rumors of the turbo 2.0 in the 08-09 cobalts, and I have also heard rumors of AWD platform to compete with wrx/evo croud. Just rumors though :( .

Nice kills. I wouldn't mind a Sky RedLine, or an SRT-4. Heck, I drove a Cavalier Z24 once, and it was pretty fun...so much fun I ended up getting a ticket

Ya I thought that was dumb when I saw that. If anything, they should have brought back the Z24 badge for the non-s/c "SS" and left the SS for the s/c only.

Or maybe just an RS for the non-supercharged ones :dunno:

Regardless, a SyTy would destroy a Cobalt S/C

I know locally at the races the SRT's are destroying the Cobalt guys.

What's the SRT Stage III kit.. isn't it pushing 300hp? Cobalt SS S/C Stage III gets 270 or something? So right from the factory with the factory aftermarket they are ahead. Though I hear there's serious HP hiding in the Cobalt's Ecotec motor.

Re: WRX and Cobalt SS killed

My wife has a non S/C SS Cobalt. It is an A4 and runs good for a 4 banger. The supercharged cars all have the big ugly ricer wing. The n/a SS has a much better looking rear spoiler IMO.

Anyways, I would guess her car to be high 9's in the 1/8th mile, maybe high 14's in the 1/4. Not a rocketship but a fun little economy car. My idea for her car if I ever get the Blazer done is to turbo the 2.4.

Stock vs stock, a SRT would beat a S/C. Not destroy, but beat by 1-2 car legnths. The SRT4's have been out longer, and they sold way more of them, so there is a larger aftermarket for them vs what it avaliable for the S/C's. And as of now, there is no official word on a GM stage 3 kit. Stage 2 bumps the power up to ~250 HP, which is enough for my wife (for now :D )

Re: WRX and Cobalt SS killed

The guys here are beating them by more than 2, not much though. There is a really good aftermarket for the SRT's unlike the SS'. The stage 3 puts the SRT guys into the 12's with a turbo swap. I've gone to a few of the SRT meets and a couple friends of mine have them. A guy in my club ran a 12.67 with slicks, open dp, boost controller, and weight reduction. But it's still a neon and you can't polish a turd.

Re: WRX and Cobalt SS killed

When I was at the track last Friday night, there was a stage 3 SRT4 running mid to high 11's. Pretty f'n fast for a little econo-box.
