Does anyone know some realistic numbers of how many typhoons, syclones and sonoma gt's are actually still on the road?

Only way to figure that, is to have each of the organizers of the groups keep in contact with the people in their state, and see who still owners one, or if they have been in an accident or not and totaled.

That'd be the "closest" figure. But then again, there are alot of trucks not accounted for out there too I'm sure.

run a carfax on them all .Not sure you could with the sonoma gt's , but on the 6k syty's you could .

Maybe it would be easier to deduct the ones that have been totaled. I hate to say this but I have not seen another sy or ty since I have bought mine. The only other syclone I have ever seen in my life was in Tampa in 1999. I suspect the ones unaccounted for are "put away", given the history on the gnx and tta.

This is really quite easy to figure out; If you take the number produced and divide that by the number sold, multiplied by the number actually registered while subtracting the number crash tested, promo's, and in the GM museum you deduce how many were running at ground zero (or when released from the factory). Now take that figure (F1), multiply it by .97 and then subtract the result (R1) from (F1) and that will be a pert-near accurate portrayal of the number of Sy/Ty/Sgt's still on the road. To save you some headache, it comes out to roughly 217 that are still on the road. By cross-checking the equasion, it appears to me the majority are broken OR non-functional.

Re: care to speculate?

My insurance agent believed that there were about 2,000 Syclones left. He had to do some research on my Sy when I bought it back 2002. I have only seen one Sy around me several different times.

My brother and I have a '87 GN, '89 TTA, and '91 Sy. Only vehicle left is the the Ty. Maybe in a couple years.

Re: care to speculate?

i was going to put up a post like this a couple of days ago. anyway there cant be too many left. ive only seen 1 other ty in mynarea and that was 3 years ago and i know of 1 sy that lives about 40 miles from me. so on the range of sy/ty that are left, my guess would be a little more then half of what were produced IMO.

though tonight was awesome. i was cruising beside a car thats alot rarer then my ty. a tta.....indy pace car edition. it was freakin sweet...,:)

I am not sure every SyTy that ends up in junkyard shows up on a carfax. I think it would have to be totalled by the insurance company for it to show up.

I think at one point someone did a registration check in 2001 or 2002 and it came back with ~70% of SyTy's registered. This maybe what your insurance agent did. This is a good way to come up with a number, but the overall number would be higher because not all truck are registered.

Why would they need to crash test these trucks? Aren't they structurally identical to the Chevrolet counterparts? Or were they worried about the DP coming through the firewall?

Funny you say that , because the sy I bought was totaled out and I still havent finished my 3 year restore .I am only a new tranny and paintjob away from getting it registered . I would say more than half but not quite 75% are still alive .
