You might want to check the math on that one :) In my long trips I have gotten high 18 to high 19 for fuel economy. I imagine the 100 miles around the hotel, the gas milegae will drop down to the typical 13mpg...
yea i had fat fingers on the keyboard

2 * 1260 = 1520 ?!!? I fixed the math above

Did he special order it that way, I didn't think you could get a 8.1 in the yukon's?
Is it a 3/4 ton?

On the $ figures deal what is gas prices in the states you will be going thru? I know gas here where I'm at is $2.59 for 87 and 93 is about @2.90. Diesel is around $2.95 and I know gas here and in KC can't be much different. :2cents:

I read NJ has the highest gas prices of late. Gas Stations off major highways tend ot be more expensive as well. Fortunately gas prices are dropping and should further drop after labor day weekend. Just yesterday, I finally saw 93 Octance drop below $3, 3 weeks ago it was rare to see 87 below $3.

Naw it should be in less than 10 pieces.
BDubb is coming down for Labor Day and we are having a marathon wrench/jaga/40oz OE type o' weekend.

Plan is to drive it on the trailer...
What happens after that we will have to wait and see.

Leaving the house now to go put some rocker studs in the heads, get the top half back together, intakes on and do some wiring.

Still need a TB gakset set and O rings for the injectors and fuel rail.
And theres still plenty of time until it goes on the trailer next wednesday night.

trailering = piece of mind, if anything breaks i'm covered.. I can bring more stuff to sell (hopefully people buy so I can have some $ to come back with).. if anyone from the northeast breaks they will have a way to get home (yes I will make them pay for gas, its the jew in me)
and I'd get to run my slow ass stock truck down the track a few times at nats.. maybe have someone burn me a decent chip if they are really bored

.

I say trailer that beyotch

. If you think going to the NATS is expensive now, imagine how much it would cost if you have the misfortune of breaking down and have to rent a truck AND a trailer to get it back home. You could always leave it with someone there and get back home some other way and have it shipped motor carrier at a later date. Because as we all know, you don't even have to beat on these trucks to make them break sometimes...

I also didn't know they put the 8.1L in the Yukon.

1260 miles each way.. roughly anyway.. i figured 15-16mpg in the typhoon, 10mpg in the yukon..

10mpg if you're lucky. We tow our race car with a 2002 3/4 ton, 4wd with the 8.1L and Allision Automatic. 9-10mpg without a trailer, 7-8mpg with the trailer. Trailer is a 24' enclosed with a '69 Camaro weighing 2500lbs, plus tools and a moped. I don't know the gear ratio differences between the Yukon and the Silverado. But the Yukon does weigh more than the Silvy does, but if you tow an open trailer, not as much wind resistance as an enclosed trailer like we have. Then again, we only get 9-10mpg without the trailer.

its a 3/4 ton as far as i know.. and it def has the 8.1L in it.. he wanted one with the diesel but they didn't make it until this year or something..

i'm hoping to get 10mpg with the typhoon and trailer.. will it actually happen, won't know till i start the trip..

It should, my tahoe with the old 5.7l towing roberts on open trailer going Mach 5 got 10mpg on way back.

I loved trailering mine last year. No worries if I was going to get home or not. I know how these trucks are, they are very tempermental. I drove my ty to KC 3 times, but I was never brave enough to race it in fear of having to uhaul it back home $$$.

It would have been about 17mpg in my Ty with premium, and my 02 3500 4x4 silverado got 13-14 towing with 87. I guess it is nice to only have the 6.0 sometimes, though I really wanted to diesel.

Voice of experience here......trailer it.

Price to rent a uhaul box truck and one of their trailers one way from KS to VA (~1200mi) was going to be ~600 bucks....PLUS fuel for that SOB. By the time the trip was made if the uhaul would have been used a grand would have been spent and I would still have been a couple hundred miles from home. Keep in mind uhaul wont rent you one of their pick ups to tow the trailer with either so youd be stuck driving an empty ~28' box truck just so you could tow one of their trailers and all uhaul had when I called was gasser trucks. Can you say ~5mpg x 1200 miles?....ouch!

Thankfully Mike C came to the rescue and put my broken junk up on his trailer and towed it all the way from KS to my door step in VA while I followed in his sy. I paid for gas and fed him (which aint cheap...that boy can eat   ).

Oh yeah, I wasnt beating on the truck either since I drove it but it didnt matter anyways since the rear diff decided to explode while pulling into the motel parking lot 1200 miles from home.

Its your call...do ya feel lucky?

BTW, its suprising at what appears to be a lack of MPG that you guys are getting on the late model trucks/SUVs  . The dually in my sig with 454 with 4:10 gears got 13.7 on a trip to FL hauling my empty 2200lb open car trailer and 12.9 on the trip back hauling a 87 Monte SS and an extra SBC in the bed.

Re: to trailer or drive to nationals

at the moment, I still don't have a trailer.. local place wants $60 a day to rent one.. that ontop of the extra $ for gas and ill be broke.

Same as I thought. Mine is a 4x4 dually with the 6.0 and auto and it gets about 15-16 empty, and 13-14 loaded. It would suck getting in the single digits! Uhaul is expensive.
