Racing Fuel is Amazing! Newbie Alert.

I recently used racing fuel in my vehicle just to see if it made any difference (yes I am a newbie to the site though I've owned my Ty since 1993). It is simply amazing how the engine responds. It runs better, not as hot, and the performance is increased. Unfortunately, the price is quite prohibitive for daily use. ($5.99 a gallon).

I found it at a local station. Apparently it is a very good quality as my mechanic could attest when he tested te fuel pressure and abit squirted out.

Other than the performance aspect, am I correct in my assumption that it is also good for your heads, plugs etc?

race gas will do nothing performance wise, unless your motor needs the octane (ie. it is detonating)

For those who's motors tend to detonate, then yes you will see a difference. If your motor does not detonate then you will either need to turn up the boost, lean out the a/f ratio or increase the timing to feel the difference.

Racing fuel actually slowed my truck down during my 1/4 mile runs a few years back. No surprise though as I did not change the fuel or timing.

Actually, no detonation. Breaking in a new motor so the boost is low. It just seemed to run better. I guess I was misaken.

Thanks for the gas info, I was very curious about it myself. Speaking of gas, are their any gases we should be avoiding in our trucks? Or maybe I should ask any additives in the gas we should watch out for? I started to fill up at 76 last night and noticed a sticker that said I might be getting ethonal (i think thats what it said) in my gas. Same with MTBE (or whatever its called), cheveron's techron, Shells Vpower (whatever that is) ect, ect. Or should I be getting ARCO and other cheaper stations mix since they probably just give you gas?

Good question.

ethonal sux...i think...it just makes the gas less potent and lowers your mpg?

Yeah race gas increases the octane rating and has a slower burn rate, which in a sense is like retarding the timing. Now if you're talking about an alcohol car, that's a different story.

Too bad ethanol actually has a higher octane rating than any "premium" pump gas.

Screw all those octane boosters in a bottle...its garbage. Go down to your local paint store and pick up a 5gal container of sherwin williams xylene. Put in 5 gallons in your truck and fill the rest of the tank up with 93 octane. That'll boost your octane to around 100+ depending if its a sy or a ty. Just remember to replace your fuel filter more frequently. Xylene likes to clean your fuel system.

It wont enless you run it straight! Just make sure you don't go over 1/4.... 1 part xylene 3 parts fuel. There are no lubricants in xylene
