ABS going out??

As soon as I press the brake pedal I get 1 pulse then the pedal feels normal but the car pulls left. I thought the right brake cyl. was siezed so I replaced both calipers and brake hoses for good measure but still I have the same problem! I bled the brakes twice still the same. Any thoughts???

Re: ABS going out??

Did you check the rear brakes? If the rear left lock up it will pull left or if the right rear is not working.
Also check your tires.

Re: ABS going out??

Check your wires that go to each brake. It has like black protecting over it, but it gets shaved off sometimes. That happened to me, but on the passenger side. I would ease on the brakes and it would pull hard to the right. My wire was like touching the brake shield and got fraid kind of. I zip tied it to something out of the way and it was fine ever since.

Re: ABS going out??

Thx guys,
I gave it to a shop to turn the rotors and see if they can find the problem. I'll check the wires when I get it back. Hopefully its not the ABS, if it is then its bypass time.
I'm gonna put it for sale ($13-$12K) when I get it back, not because of this but because I have four cars.
:p

Re: ABS going out??

See. #2 in my for sale post came true again. The dumbshits couldn't figure out whats wrong with the brakes so the guy is asking for $170 to have them "really look it over". I'm gonna pick it up tomorrow so I can "really look it over". Most likely they saw something (dirty/damaged ABS wire) that doesn't cost a fortune to repair so they want to screw me for more money. We'll see. I'll check the lines and wires when I get it back.

Would the pedal pump/ABS kick once before letting your foot press hard? Say you just go for the brakes, as soon as you press (pedal travels about 1" or less) it pulses/pump/kick/whatever you wanna call it once, then it lets you apply the brakes normally but pulls you in one direction.

Re: ABS going out??

NOBODY!?!?!?!? Wow guys I really need some help with this so the next owner will be happy to own it. This is the only real major thing that sucks ass on the Ty.

Another reason I think its located in the front right: When I brake the wheel squeals as it comes to a stop. At low speeds you can hear it squeak squeak squeaking, the faster you go the less you hear it. I'm guessing its the rotors because this seemed to start when I got them turned sometime at the beg. of this year. At that time I also changed the pads. I've tried TWO different pads throughout this year and this will be the third set because I put two new loaded calipers. I'm going right now to go buy two totally new rotors and get them turned. I'll then lightly sand the pads (like two or three strokes) to get any crap off then wipe them with a paper towel.
Any ideas on the sqweaking/sqweal on stop? Where's jesus when you need him?

When it was happening to me, I would barely put any pressure on the brake pedal and it would make a loud noise and pull me to whichever side it was. (passenger for me) Then after driving for like 5 mins, it would go away. But when I put pressure on it kind of hard it pulled me in one direction. It could be the ABS unit going out. I didn't keep mine around much longer after that to find out because I did the delete kit. Which I love!!!! I can launch at like 10+ psi now!!! Before I would roll through brakes before 5 psi.

Re: ABS going out??

Thanks wantingasy!! Any help is totally appreciated man.
I ordered the ABS delete kit a couple of days ago as a backup for both Ty's but I honestly hope it doesn't come down to that because I would like to sell this car as an original unmolested Ty.
If the new calipers+pads+rotors+cleaned sensors doesn't work I WILL delete that POS.
What about pulling the ABS fuse does that actually work to test wether or not I should remove it? Because what if something inside the ABS box is stuck closed, then it'll just brake pulling left all the time right? Hmm... At least we're eliminating stuff.....at my expense...:p :)

Re: ABS going out??

Have you tried bleeding your brakes a few times? I read our ABS systems are really sensitive to the black debris from old brake fluid. My ABS fail and I was able to semi revivie it by flushing 2 or 3 times, I later ditched it anyways.

Re: ABS going out??

Check that electrical wire and make sure it's not touching anything metal. Like the brake dust shield. :2cents:

Re: ABS going out??

Well I just took it out and its exactly the same. 100% pimp rotors and it still is squealing/squeeking and pulse once then pull left. Maybe the wheel bearing is causing the squeeking?
So far its been bled twice and still is the same. I'll bleed it again if I can.
The wires look good too. no rubs or anything.
Should I pull the ABS fuse?

Re: ABS going out??

I just posted on this, the squeal should be a dead giveaway on your hub assy. replace the bearing and you should be ok

Re: ABS going out??

Thx man. I just read your other post. Great info, I wish I knew a loooooooong time ago :)
I'll hit it this weekend and post the results.

EDIT: I unplugged and taped the ABS power plug and took the car for a drive. The right front is braking perfect now! Obviously the squeal is still there. Now my next step is to replace the bearing and plug the ABS back in and test. I'll keep updating until this is solved.

Re: ABS going out??

I installed the hub assembly (click-4-pics)
The Ty rides real smooth and rotating the old hub gives the answer why. I might buy another hub ass. and do the other side. I didn't hook up the ABS to check if that was fixed but I'm betting it's still fubared.
Check this out:
fr_hub_02_07.jpg

The sensor touches the toning ring. Is that OK? I tried to loosen the three bolts and push the shield as much as I could away but it still touches. I think that might be the squealing and also the reason the ABS is a de dee dee. I'll test the ABS soon by plugging it back in, it's just that the brakes are a thousand times better than with ABS plugged in- go figure (I compared it with my other Blk/Blk Ty).
Any ideas guys?
