Shopping list for replacing front wheel bearings?

-Bearings
-Bearing grease
-two cotter pins

What else is needed/ you recommend doing at the same time? Tools?
I'll use latex gloves to pack the bearings. I'm gonna buy them from NAPA because they're supposed to be the cheapest. The process is pretty straight forward right?

The wheel bearings are not servicable as you might be thinking (ie packing grease in them).

Our front hubs are sealed with bearings in tact and toning rings for the ABS.
So basically you just swap out the entire front hub as a unit.
Not just the inner and outer bearings/races like a 2wd.

Pulling the rotors off will give you an idea of what comes next.
You will have to remove the 3 bolts on the back side of the spindle to get the hub off.

If you have deleted your ABS you can buy the cheaper 4X4 front hubs as they do not have the toning rings.

the axle might be siezed in the hub, be sure not to mushroom the axle end when you tap it out with a hammer. other than that its really easy. 3 bolts 1 nut 1 connector, no grease

Killer! Thx!

So just hub ass. and cotter pin and I should be good to go?

The 112 bolt has the head of the caliper bolt? I have a brake kit which has a couple sizes.

112 is actually a wheel stud.
You can see where the arrow points to the hub and there is a blank area where that stud is headed.

The 3 bolts hoilding the hub on are std hex heads.

Re: Shopping list for replacing front wheel bearings?

to make it easier to remove the wheel bearing use an air chisel w/ the pointed chisel bit to hammer the half shaft out

I thread the axle nut off until it covers the end of the axle shaft then hit that with the hammer instead.
Basically you have to push the CV axle back out of the hub to release it.

Re: Shopping list for replacing front wheel bearings?

I installed the hub assembly (click-4-pics) <--------- EDIT: *fixed link* (moved website to new host)
The Ty rides real smooth and rotating the old hub gives the answer why. I might buy another hub ass. and do the other side. I didn't hook up the ABS to check if that was fixed but I'm betting it's still fubared.
Check this out:

The sensor touches the toning ring. Is that OK? I tried to loosen the three bolts and push the shield as much as I could away but it still touches. I think that might be the squealing and also the reason the ABS is a de dee dee. I'll test the ABS tomorrow.
Any ideas guys?

Sorry I just moved my site to a new host ($49.00/yr instead of $108.00/yr) so I fixed the links above.
