Where to tap into vacuum for BOV?

P/ U a BOV and did a search but cannot figure out the best place to tap for vacuum. I have an aftermarket boost gauge with a 20g 14cm2 ported turbo and want to make sure the boost gauge stays accurate in the process. Pics would really help to not confuse the retard (me). Thanks all.

just tap in to the same vacuum line that the boost gauge is T'd off of.

That is what I thought but I wanted to make sure that it wouldn't screw up the accuracy of the gauge. Thanks.

A lot of people tap into the front of the manifold (right under the TB) but I ran mine to the back near the firewall because I pulled the vacuum ball and had an extra spot.

Can you send some pics of your BOV install to attackdog@hotmail.com ? It would really help with me getting this in. Also, what diameter is the pipe that your BOV is mounted to? Thanks.

I would not mind seeing the BOV pic also. Thinking about doing one.

HKS Super Sequential:

You can tap into any vacuum line on the other side of the throttle body. Blow Off Valves need to detect a difference in vacuum to operate correctly as it opens it when the throttle blades close after being in boost. DO NOT tap into the vacuum for either the MAP sensor or the fuel pressure regulator. Those are both too vital to be messed with... I tapped into the same line that my digital boost gauge is connected to. You will need a 2" OD hardpipe between the turbocharger and intercooler to weld a flange to for the BOV. Flanges for the HKS BOVs are sold in MM so, you will need a 50MM flange for a 2" hardpipe if you run an HKS.

I can weld on on the rpm a2a pipe.? I would guess put it before the alky so no methanol would get blown out.

Re: Where to tap into vacuum for BOV?

Thanks :)! Currently, I have over 100 hours polishing the top of my motor with more to go...

You can connect it to the piping on an A2A intercooler. However, every truck that I have witnessed experienced a slight amount of "backwash" through the compressor wheel when the throttle blades closed. It is my opinion that the greater volume of pressurized air that is present in an A2A intercooler piping vs. a stock W2A causes this. The BOV simply can't vent the pressure quick enough and some of the pressure tries to stall the wheel... Most BOV's are adjustable for how quickly they will vent boost when they open. The down side is having them adjusted to open quicker can result in boost leakage at high boost.

thanks. i did not mean to hijack the tread. sorry. I just happened to be a question I was searching. I just dont like the flutter as the air passes the filter

Re: Where to tap into vacuum for BOV?

No problem, BOV threads *always* turn up several questions... Bottom line is our trucks may not benefit from a BOV. There are lots of trucks out there with well over 100K still running the stock turbo with no issues. Running one certainly won't hurt anything either other than your wallet. The stock turbo spins at 130,000 to 140,000 RPM's at full boost. I wasn't crazy about trying to force that pressure back from where it came from everytime I got off the gas. My bud on the other hand likes the "horse type" sound that his truck makes without a BOV. I know of one member who had the nut that held the compressor wheel on his aftermarket turbo spin off due to the rapid deceleration of the wheel without a BOV. To run a BOV or not is a personal choice.

Great, I dont want to post mine now after SY2932(sp)....lol..... I will anyways, I have the same setup with my vacuum line ran to the back. I took this pic of the engine today, no cleaning it up or anything.

Re: Where to tap into vacuum for BOV?

Thanks for all the info guys. I really appreciate it. Now I hope I can find a good welder. Oh, does it matter which way the BOV is mounted? ie... the port the air blows out of, does it have to face forward or backward, toward the turbo, ? Thanks.

Off topic, would you mind giving tools and tip info on how to get a polish like that? Thats soooo sick, I gotta get my intake a aircooler looking like yours.

It doesn't matter what direction that you mount it. Towards the cab will be loud to you vs. everyone else

... wantingasy has his going the other way but the HKS is held in the flange with a big snap ring so you can rotate it to whatever position that you want...

With regards to how to be a "bling king" you folks can see my "how to" write up that I did here.

Re: Where to tap into vacuum for BOV?

Yeah, you can point the BOV either way. Mine is facing the back because it was a PITA to get the snap ring on with my POS tool and after I got it on i realized it was backwards and didn't want to risk puncturing the o-ring by turning it around. Next time my pipe is off, I'm going to turn it around. Trust me though, it's still plenty loud for people on bikes or on the sidewalks to know!!! So funny when you see them jump out of there shoes after you let off of like 10+ psi!!! :rotf: :rotf: :rotf:
