Installed IC fan, have a question....

OK, I wanted a fan on my lower IC, but couldn't swing the $$ for a SPAL, so I bought a radiator fan for a Honda CBR900 off of Ebay for $19 shipped and luckily it fit perfectly. I wired up a relay and currently have it on the same switch as my IC pump. Actually works really well, that thing moves a TON of air!

Now my question. While I had the IC down, I noticed that the green wire that goes to the temp sensor in the lower IC wasn't plugged in. I assume this is the sensor that is intended to turn on the IC pump right? At what temp does it turn on? I assume it sends a ground to the IC pump relay when it opens?

The reason I ask is that I'm not sure I want the fan to run all the time. If I can have that sensor turn on the fan, so it runs only when it really needs to, I'd prefer that.

I think it was 200ish degrees from the factory, unless you have your chip reburnt to lower the temp.

crap, i was afraid of that. if thats the case the fan will never turn on... guess I'll just leave it as is.

You're probably referring to the the low CAC coolant light wire. It was unused on our trucks (well 99.9% of them anyways.) The cut-on for the IC pump is controlled via the ECM-controlled relay on the firewall.

The easiest way to wire the fan up where you want it to turn on under your control is to wire it via a toggle switch controlled Bosch style relay.

The fan in theory only helps you when you are stantionary, but the CAC is in such a bad airflow spot without a scoop you might want to think about running it all the time. If it goes out in a couple years just buy another one $19 isn't a bad deal.

Be a man and run that fan all the time.

Remember, this is a Typhoon we are talking about - that fan will outlast SEVERAL parts of the truck LOL.
