Whats the easiest way to go about removing the stock downpipe? I have everything unbolted but I cant get the damn cat off, id rather not cut it off, but it looks like I might have to.

Re: Removing downpipe?

no need to remove the cat. use a mallet and tap the downpipe further into the cat till top of the dp clears the bolts of the turbo....rotate the downpipe towards the fender till it clears the entire turbo...then use the mallet to tap the downpipe out of the cat - and its then just a matter of fishing it out of the truck.

That's what I'm in the middle of at this very moment. That works very well if the downpipe isn't stuck in the cat. I'm hacking mine just behind the downpipe right now. I even tried air hammering the dp out of the cat, heck with a mallet.

Re: Removing downpipe?

My stock DP is still stuck to the stock cat... I gave up trying to get it off about 2 years ago :rotf:

Heat it up with a torch until it's glowing red hot helps also or just get pistoff and beat the shit out it.

yea everything is unbolted, its just that it seems to hit the a/c box and the tranny crossmember and I cant really seem to get it any further than that.

jack the truck up as high as your jack stands will go. Then just jiggle the thing every which way. I think when i took mine out in stock form...i fished it forward a bit....then back and down at a weird angle...and then forward a little bit more towards the fender...and then it finally just dropped out itself. Just takes some finese/luck.

Re: Removing downpipe?

My cat was also stuck to my downpipe and I removed both as one unit.. After I got them out I heated up the cat till it was glowing red and the downpipe slid out fairly easily.. I then used a pipe expander to get both pipes perfectly round again and I used a band-clamp when I reinstalled everything..

I was on a pit and if I remember it had to be rotated around and pointed pretty much in the downward direction.. So you def need to get it up in the air as high as possible..

Re: Removing downpipe?

Same here. Get that thing as high as you can and wiggle it around until you can get it out. Makes it easier to have a second person, one below the truck, the other helping from the engine compartment to see what it's stuck on or where it needs to go.

Here's a pic of the DP Ive just made..... It sort of cork screws up int place from under the car (More luck than judgement..lol) Fun to make with no more than 4" of straignt pipe..lol

Must admit.... I went for 2.5" and not 3"..... as a 2.5" is tight enough. All credit to the guys who produce the 3" DP's
