ABS wiring delete.

Since most of the ABS is gone, I figure I'd remove the rest of the wiring for it on the engine side. I don't want to roll it up and stick it in the fenderwell, I want to remove it. I don't plan on reinstalling it, bla bla bla. So here are some questions.

1) One wire in the ABS loom is wrapped with electrical tape and splits off to the sensor on the master cylinder. It's not a simple splice as there appears to be a resistor in between the two wires. Is it safe to bypass this?

Here are the two wires wrapped in tape (click for a bigger version)

2) The rest of the wires attach to a weatherpack connector just above the brake booster, but there are three that connect to the junction block on the firewall. All of the wires in there are covered by some black goop (probably to make it waterproof). What is the easiest way to remove the wires cleanly out of here? I know I can cut them, don't want to do that. What about the connections on the other side? Any ill effects if they aren't connected on the engine side?

Thanks

Re: ABS wiring delete.

That resistor is not factory, the wires will unplug from the bulkhead but the complete assy has to be removed at one time then the 3-4 connectors will seperate, just refill the cavity with Black Silicone for a bathtub

So what does everybody else have in there? Can anybody take pics?

Re: ABS wiring delete.

That resistor looks more like a diode to me.. Sorry I don't have any useful info for you but please share whatever info you find.. I'd be interested in completely removing all of my ABS wiring like you are doing..

Thanks,

Re: ABS wiring delete.

I'll take Ken's word that this isn't factory. The weird thing is that it was all wrapped in the same type of tape that the rest of the wiring loom has. Not just electrical tape, sort of like a black duct tape.

Re: ABS wiring delete.

It is a diode kind of a one way check valve for electricity, Possibly something witha recall or TSB? My was not connected to the master cyl? the only thing I can imagine is possibly its a way for the cruis to be deactvated when the brakes are applied as the sensor went bad and somebody improvised?

Re: ABS wiring delete.

Cruise is gone, so at this point I plan on cutting out the splice and joining the wire from the proportioning valve directly to the one in the wiring harness. It's tan with a white stripe. After looking at the S10 manual, the connector on the proportioning valve is for the idiot light on the dash should anything fail. That one is going to have to stay, but the section attatched to the cruise control wiring can be nixed.

why would that wire have to stay. idiot light isn't gonna do you any good.

Because it's fun to see a picture of you lighted up on my dash...

Re: ABS wiring delete.

So the white wire going to the sensor on top of the prop valve is for the idiot light?

Re: ABS wiring delete.

Chilton S10 manual, section 9-9:

"The pressure differential warning switch is designed to constantly compare the front and the rear brake pressures; if one circuit should malfunction, the warning light (on the dash) will turn On. the valve and switch are designed to lock in the warning position once the malfunction has occurred. The only way the light can be turned Off is to repair the malfunction and apply a brake line force of 450 psi (3100 kPa)."

Figure 18 shows a cross section of the prop valve with section "B" as the warning switch.

Now, what's the best way to remove all the black gunk from the connectors so I can see what I'm doing?

Re: ABS wiring delete.

Brake clean works good, but CRC electrical contact cleaner, works good for a cheap alternative laquer thinner cut with water
