switchhappy!!!
I thought it might be interesting to see some selfmade tools that ease the pain of wrenching on this trucks.
I got 3 selfmade tools so far:

Re: sy/ty special tools

I have three currently
1. Special 24" long 14mm open end wrench for installing crank to flexplate bolts with converter in truck and bolted up

2. Specially bent and twisted box end for tightening motor mounts around front differential

3. Collar tool for adjusting steering box worm gear preload while installed in truck

Will post pics later

can't take credit for it, but it sure the hell makes getting the rotor off easier.

I think many on this forum have chosen this as their favorite work on the truck tool:

That tends to cause me to have left over bolts when use that tool. :D

I did find a 1/4 inch drive swivel socket for the dist. It works great

Re: sy/ty special tools

Very interesting. I did buy an e-torx box end wrench to get the (rear) front driveline bolts out. And a Torx socket for the front bolts. Now that it (the driveline) is out, prolly never use them again since I have the grade 8 hex bolts for the replacement. Maybe I'll hang 'em up as a decoration.

I thought the same thing too Don. But with the trans smoked I had to use them again.

If you get a "crow's foot" they work great for getting that dissy bolt. That is the only thing I think is easy that others seem to think is a pain.

Re: sy/ty special tools

I spent $150 on a set of snap on stubby wrenches. I never use them except for on the ty. Worth every penny for one bolt I had trouble with

Re: sy/ty special tools

Another one I bought for the Ty is a twist-handle 3/8" ratchet ... once the bolt is broken loose, you just twist the handgrip to keep turning it... very useful in tight spots

I have an earlier version of this:

One of the handiest tools I've ever owned, kinda beat-up after all these years but still works perfect. And no, I didn't pay $90.00 for it. Prolly paid $20.00, 20 years ago. Went looking for my straight 3/8 ratchet the other day and couldn't even find it.:rotf: Had to dredge up some no-name standby.
