oil cooler ?

i recently broke the oil line running from the remote oil filter to the radiator. sitting in the garage staring at the truck i thought of something and am looking for some input. i will be going to a a2a set up so i will no longer have the lower intercooler mounted there. i was thinking of placing a remote cooler like everyone uses on thier trans down there and running the engine oil thru that as a cooler instead of the radiator. my concern is flow thru the cooler , would a cooler like that be to restrictive for our stock oiling systems ? i was also thinking that i would build a guard for it like alot of the jap bikes have in front of the radiator to pervent road debris from wiping it out. i just think a set up like that would cool the oil better than the original set-up. any input ?

Re: oil cooler ?

remove the oil cooler lines and remote filter set-up off all together and just run the filter on the bottom side just like u would on any old small block

Are you saying dont run a cooler? On any old smallblock there is no turbo and less heat. Wouldnt this cause a problem? Im sure it would be fine if you drive easily but I run the hell out of mine.

Re: oil cooler ?

i wouldnt be as brave as to run with no cooler and the filter in stock small block location, i think that is asking to cook some oil. im wondering if running thru a larger oil cooler is to restrictive for our oil sysstems , as the original cooler is only a single loop thru the radiator. with the lower heat exchanger gone there would be more than enough room to fit a nice sized oil cooler. im worried about starving the motor of oil.

Re: oil cooler ?

THANKS 12.... thats exactly what i was thinking about doing, actually i had work making up some ends like on the original hoses that i was thinking about putting right at the mount on the block, then moving my oil filter and a cooler underneith the ty on the drives side, like mounted to the crossmember up high , so it would be roughly 1/2 inch above it , them move my battary to the left side and that would leave me plenty of room on the right side for air intake and piping for the a2a intercooler. thanks for pointing out the t/t kit. i guess i need to spend more time trolling the vender web sites.

Re: oil cooler ?

i was reading that , it says for high pressure/high volume oil system , typical modded or race motors. do you think our stock systems are to weak to support a set up like that ?

Re: oil cooler ?

I'd assume a stock system would be fine with that kit. Double check with them on it.
I like the idea of putting the cooler and filter underneath. I like a clean engine bay and taking off an oil filled filter there makes a mess. Maybe I'll mount the filter to the inside of the frame on the drivers side and put the cooler in front of the radiator.

Re: oil cooler ?

the whole reason i want to do it is because i want to move my battary to the left side and give myself room on the right side for a2a piping and fab a cold air box for the right side. im also wondering if just moving the filter to the inside of the frame rail on the drivers side is enough to not even need a cooler, lines no longer running under the manifold next to the block , better air flow across filter, ill probably run a cooler also, still planning this out. i had my work machine up adapters for the adapter on the block to accept 3/8npt-6an fittings , but noticed some lines have recessed o-rings and some dont, still trying to figure out why.
