I got rear ended in the Ty @ a stop sign tonight. :(
Fortunately the guy in the Peterbilt wasn't going very fast.
Unfortunately with all his weight he didn't need to be going fast to do damage.

Hit me in the driver rear corner, smashing the corner cladding, hitting the gate & I can see the rear qtr panel is buckled. Roll pan looks ok.
I'll have to do more inspecting in the morning.

If I hadn't decided to stop for Starbucks, I woulda been home without a hitch just like every other night.:tdown:

Never like to hear this. (I'm a truck driver so I can say this) When you get whacked by a big truck he REALY wasn't paying attention. What did he say afterwards?

He was apologetic while I was yelling many bad things at him. :rant:
He said he was looking left at oncoming cross traffic, waiting for an opening. So he didn't bother to look forward as he began to turn right. Otherwise he would have seen me.

He had one of those big wide flat chrome bumpers. The impact was enough that it bent his bumper so that it was rubbing on the tire without turning the wheel.

The rear quarter is buckled to the front of the rear wheelwell. I'm worried about this.
The bumper cover looks like it may have survived. I know I'll at least need the rear corner cladding.
I'm really disappointed. It's ones of those times I wish I could roll the clock back.

I'm going to need some input from some of you that have had your trucks in for body work.
I want to make sure the bodyshop monkeys don't F it up more than it is & that they do the job right.
I can already see them in my head using sheetmetal screws to secure the cladding.:squint:

Did you have to supply the shop with cladding & rivets?

The wrinkled quarter is prolly going to require some time on the frame machine to straghten unless its bad enough that the panel needs replaced (it may total out if the quarter is beyond saving...dunno without seeing it).

Check around in your area with other car ppl about which body shops are hacks and which ones do good work. Body shops are as varied as anything else...some suck others kick ass. Just remember that 99.9% of the time you get what you pay for in the body shop business unless you are an insider to the business.

Any decent shop will have boxes of the rivets that will be needed for cladding but you may have to find the needed replacement cladding itself since they cant spend a huge amount of time looking for it (time=money). Shops are usually more than happy when the customer brings in any odd ball parts that will be needed since it saves them leg work/time tracking them down. Let them procure any standard S10 parts you may need since they make a few bucks on parts and they shouldnt have any problem getting them.

Sorry to hear about your wreck man. Its not the same feeling deep down inside when your new silverado gets hit as when your 15 year old collector car gets hit...

So are the rear corner pieces Typhoon specific? Or will Sy pieces work as well?

Sorry about the wreck,man.

The corners are Ty specific,and the passenger side is hard as hell to find.

Well s#%@ happens to the best of us, but IMO that's a rookie mistake. I apologize for all the other truckers out there...:oops:

But hey,try to find another virgin one for cheaper.
Not gonna happen.

. I have had a few close calls myself, managed to dodge the bullet so far... Too bad that you weren't driving what a guy I know was when he got rear ended by a semi doing close to 50 MPH a few years ago. The only reason he even knew that he got hit was his cell phone popped of the dash and fell on the floor. He was driving an 80,000 pound front end loader when it happened and the semi driver had the be life flighted to the hospital.

I think I'm starting to feel the aftermath. I've had problems with my neck in the past, disk degeneration between C5-C6. I didn't feel any discomfort this morning, but now I'm starting to feel pain in my neck.

Now I have a good reason to ask my wife for a massage. Maybe I can get some good sympathy :boink: out of it.

I took some photos & should have them uploaded today.

wow i got BOTH sides from GM for less than that like 3 years ago.

matter of fact i still have them in the boxes downstairs.

800 each huh? :p
