Is anyone using it? I havent even downloaded it, but I was wondering what its purpose is and why I would want it. I know the "dash" looks nice.

Once we can log with it (or it's integrated into TunerPro), it will be VERY powerfull. Histograms are a great tool for watching things like knock, and AFR at given cells. I'm not real good at doign write ups in short time, however if you head over to EFILives messageboard, and search arounda bit, there are some really good writeups, and those guys use histograms a TON while tuning.

Re: ScannerPro

I've used it a few times but could never get it to work with $59. Just as 2kwik4u said, it will be a very powerful tuning aid, eventually. TP will only let you monitor 6 items but, SP is almost unlimited. plus you can have PRETTY guages :)

The gauges are like a bad Fajitas.....all sizzle no steak. They look great, but don't provide a ton more data than the dash when doing tuning. If you are simply watching them for things like knock retard, and items of that nature, they'll do OK if you set them as analog gauges, since your brain will use a refference point on the gauge instead of having to watch and contemplate numbers moving.......They do look nice.

The steak is in the Histograms. They are basically a "map" that will record data at different points. Custom histograms can be VERY powerfull. Like for instance setup the Y axis as RPM, and the X axis as kPa. Then tell it to fill in the map points with recorded AFR......This lets you relate the AFR to the MAP, and RPM in the same manner that the PCM is using to supply fuel. Relating it back to the VE table VERY easily. Now if you take the same map I have described above and filter it so that it only adds values to that map when the TPS value hasn't changed in .500 seconds or more then you have the basis for making an autocorrecting table to help "autotune" your VE table.......The $59 guys have "bruteforced" this technique with excell formulas, and it works great as a tool for defining trends.

Re: ScannerPro

I decided to download scannerpro today. I got it loaded and opening. I went to code 59 becasue I remembered seeing an adx file for 59, but I cant download it. When I right click it, I cant get a "save target as" option. I went to a music download sight and I get the same thing. Why cant I right click and "save target as" anymore?? Damn computer!!!

Can anyone email me a 59 adx file?? SBNova@Yahoo.com

It's because it's a text file.

Easy fix, open the link in the browser. Highlight all the text (Ctrl-A). Do a copy.
Paste into notepad.

Save as 59.adx

Should be all there is to it.

Re: ScannerPro

Got it, thanks!
I opened it up and it looks cool. I layed out some histograms that I might like to try- mainly MPH vs Kpa vs Injector pulse width, so maybe I can get my mileage under control. I havent tried to connect yet, but I am excited to see the pulse width histogram when I alter the timing at cruise.

Changing the timing won't effect your pulsewidth. The VE table does however.

Timing will effect your AFR's as you get either a more or less complete burn in the cylinder.

Re: ScannerPro

Re: ScannerPro

Timing does change the pulsewidth needed, to go the same speed at the same load and the same AFR, as the efficiency of the engine changes when spark occurs at the most opportune time.

hope you get it to work...I tried with no luck.
I've reported my issues to mangus, so the latest rev may work

Thats a REALLY round about way of looking at it, but I suppose you are right. Less timing = less power = more pedal pressure = more pulsewidth.......I personally would look at RPM vs kPa vs AFR.......Making everything at 100kPa or less in the 15.5-15.7 range, once that is ironed out, start tweaking the timing with a histogram to watch RPM vs kPa vs knock.......Lather, Rinse, Repeat until happy with the tune.

Re: ScannerPro

Yup. I have the fueling where I think its at a safe lean, now I just want to tweak the timing to get the least pulse width at a steady cruise/load and see if I can get the mpg's up.

Ashman- I had the same luck you did. I got connected but its all gibberish. Figures, I spent a little time building a dash too.

If you've got a good base $58 chip you might want to try that if you are interested in seeing how ScannerPro works. Otherwise, I'd like to think that you could do similar things with some time, and a little programming knowledge in Excell.

I've thought several times of making a Visual Basic program that will sort and organzie data from a datalog for you. With customizable histogram type viewing........I've not been motivated enough to move forward with taht though :(

I posted in a thread on ThirdGen.org about scannerpro and BTCamaro said;
I had that problem with my 8d adx. I went into the editor and had to check the box that says rs232 echo and then everything started looking right. I hope this helps.

I am at work all day today, does anyone care to look into this or try it?

I actually don't have a truck or a cable. Nearest running truck is in Charlestown Indiana or me to test on.......Next time I'm over that way I might try, however I won' t be nearby until at least Thursday.

Very good. Maybe we can add those files to code59 stuff which just got a new webserver this weekend.
