a night at the races

I just got back from the race track in bithlo, it was a fun and very interesting night. my first run was against some type of chevy pickup that was kinda quick until I got my timeslip, well I did beat him but my time was like 15.15 which is horrible, I couldnt boost because the guy got up to the line real quick after me and the tree just went and I was not ready. so the 2nd race was against a rice burner honda crv well, the good news I killed him outta the hole, still didnt boost good, but lost the race with like a 15.52, so im pretty pissed, hopefully it was just because I didnt boost but I know I need some upgrades, that for sure.

When my sy was completely stock minus afpr, my abs went out and I couldn't hold anything past 900 rpms or it would go thru the brakes like I wasn't even using them.. anyways I ran back to back 13.8's at 93mph with like a 2.0 sixty foot so if you don't already have datamaster or something to log/scan to see what's going on i'd invest in that before getting into boost further

you should probably do a tuneup first, and use a scan tool to see what is actually going on.. a 15.52 is really bad for a stock truck.

seems like you were in a hurry to get off the line...if its time trials, no need, time starts when you break the beam so you can relax and build some boost.

Did you have your truck turned off before you raced? If so, you are limited to 8psi the first time you get into boost.

Get a scan tool (datamaster) and a tune up. You should be in the high 13s stock.

florida heat + humidity probably puts him at a 14.0

Not in January/Febuary. It was in the 50's in miami this week. It should be really fast this time of year in Florida. It sounded like he was leaving the line at a Idle or near to it. That compounded with the 8 psi boost limiter = 15+ second time slips.

good point, for some reason i think florida is hot and humid year round..

I know my truck loved the 50 degree sunny days of fall in NJ, ran a 13.6 consistantly on them..

There are usually only 2 MAYBE 3 trucks to watch out for at Bithlo.

One is a Red twin turbo Lighting that run's mid-high 11's. The others are built S-10's on slicks with 350 drop-in's.

Dont worry about the tree. The idiots at bithlo dont know their face from their assholes. Just go up, take your time and leave when you are ready, even if that means the other guy is half way down the track. Unless your racing for money, that is. Then you need to get to the tree first, and slowly start spooling by the time he stages and the light goes green.

Fastest time I ever ran stock setup was 13.4 at slipworld.... bradenton owns bithlo hands down.

Re: a night at the races

I just did a complete tune up, besides I know for a fact that I really didnt boost that well because the first time I got up first, as soon as I started to build break pressure the guy pulled up and set off the tree before I could even think about building boost so that was a rap, the 2nd guy I got up first again but he was doin his burnout while the cars in front of us where still in line so as soon as I set off the 2 yellows he was on top of it doin the same and I couldnt even build break pressure let alone boost, but thats ok now I know where it is and ill go more often but I do need someone that can fine tune for me if someone wants to hook up.

Do you know how much boost you had during the run? Stock boost gauge?

There's gonna be a bunch of shit talkin' about how some monkey beat a Typhoon now. LOL. When you go to the track race for your own timeslip. Don't worry about the Honda in the next lane. The clock doesn't start until you break the beams. Your reaction time may be 5 seconds, but that's not gonna affect your 1/4 mile time.

Relax, build your boost and go when you're ready.

Besides the fresh tune up, what exactly have you done to the truck? Do you have a scan tool?

Doesn't sound like he is getting hardly any boost. Is this how the truck runs normally?

Re: a night at the races

I've always found the time issue a problem as well. Like has been mentioned, time trials, it doesn't matter. It's you and the track. Eliminations are a different story. I try to stage first and start building boost right away. If the other guy is doing a burnout you take your time but be staged asap regardless. Makes the hole getting ready process easier. With me, in brackets, the other guy is usually slower so they leave first which gives me a little more time. If you are new then just keep going back. Practice, practice, practice, helps a bunch.

Get that scan tool and make sure you're not hurting the truck.
