MINI STARTER RECOMMENDATIONS

I was looking at my starter and I think it's a staggered bolt pattern, not a in-line bolt pattern. Is this right, I don't think so. I am about to order the p6449s or the cvr, but I am not sure which one to get? (bolt pattern)

I took my starter out because it was making a crazy noise at start, and would not start if the motor was hot. (heat soak) As I take the starter out I notice this huge crack in the housing. Weird! So I went to my local hi-performace store looking for the cvr starter but they didn't have any in stock. He did have a hitachi psl 100 in stock for $176.00 so I took it. It also had the ability to clock. It also has Aviation grade lubercicants to prevent hot start failers. That sold me. It was also an in line bolt pattern. It bolted up fine, I had to use two shimes. I put a heat shield over it, ran the wires and started it up. It sounds like it starts weak, but I think that is how it sounds. I checked my voltage at the battery, I had 12.5v. I started the the truck 5 times after that and it started right up. Someone told me that is just the way they sound.

Re: MINI STARTER RECOMMENDATIONS

Does Jegs not carry CVR anymore. I tried doing a search on the webiste with no results.

Tried part # CVR 5323 and 171-5323

Only other mini-starter I could find was a GM Performance Parts 168 tooth for over 200.00

Re: MINI STARTER RECOMMENDATIONS

I'll throw my bid up on the one in the link now. Hopefully this and the purple wire fix will give me some piece of mind.

contact hood, hes got some nice ones (starters) he uses as of late. I guess CVR's went downhill after a while.

Re: MINI STARTER RECOMMENDATIONS

Good price anyway. Wondering how it fits with the "raised" solenoid because of the gear reduction?

Re: MINI STARTER RECOMMENDATIONS

Starter finally took its last breath today and left me stranded in the mall parking lot. I dont want to have to wait to order one. Will any SBC inline or staggered bolt pattern mini-starter work? I have a speed shop right around the corner from my house.

Mini starter part # P6449S

Go to your local parts place and tell them you want a starter for a 96 Chevy 3/4 ton with a 454.
AutoZone.PepBoys ect. will have it in stock.

Re: MINI STARTER RECOMMENDATIONS

Any particular brand? I have a commercial account with Pep Boys so that would work out great.
