Improving the value of a SyTy

So, as many of you know, I'm buying '92 Ty #0014. It needs work, which I have no problem with. I'm wanting to fix it, drive it for a while, then sell it. My question is should I do the reliability mods (ie, AFPR, fuel pump, IC pump, heater hoses, etc) to improve the resale value, or is it worth more 100% stock?

Re: Improving the value of a SyTy

I don't consider "reliability" mods are creating a non-stock truck. There's a difference between "factory stock" (very few around), "stock spec" (with changes but no boost in horsepower), and "modded"...where changes in specs (turbo size, chip, etc.) are intended to change output.

IMHO, the most valuable are the low mileage factory stock, followed by stock spec. So, the changes you propose should not impact the value all that much.

But would it be worth my time and $? I'm kinda thinking not...

If the truck is running fine in the areas you mentioned (FP, IC, etc), then prob. not worth your time. IMHO

Re: Improving the value of a SyTy

mileage.. if it doesn't have much miles then i'd leave it completely stock if your worried about getting your money back out of it.. if it's got tons of miles then you might as well mod it because the value has dropped greatly

In my opinion if your not boost launching it, racing it etc and just plan to kart around in it for a few months then try to make a dollar.. don't do the mods

Re: Improving the value of a SyTy

~125k miles, so it isn't exactly showroom fresh. I won't be taking it to the track or anything, but I do plan on doing the occasional stoplight challenge.

This is the first truck I have bought to fix and sell. The last one was too cheap to pass up, so I bought it. Then realized that it wasn't what I wanted. So I sold it for a profit

I was in the same situation. I did all the reliabilty stuff except for the fuel pump (with it had a new GM) I fixed too many things though, no one cares if you spent $500 in parts rebuilding the suspension, brakes, hubs etc. in what would have cost $1500.

Re: Improving the value of a SyTy

I actually have been wondering the same thing. With my Typhoon should I do all the little mods? The fuel pump and stuff or just leave it alone??

i suppose if it doesnt add to the value then who cares. But it WOULD add to the value to me. If it had solid mounts, fuel pump, IC hotwire, etc I would want it more than a bone stocker cause you KNOW youll have to do them anyway.

I'll trade my syclone for a reliable anything! It is mostly stock, and I wish I had reliable mods.

No, just never studied the resale value of a higher mileage Typhoon with minor mods vs stock. :)
