Convert the 4l60 to a 4l60e?! ---

I was curious as to what are the steps to convert my stock tranny to an "electronic" configuration? What are the benefits of the mod....being able to pick your shift points? Is it worth the $$$? I am about to have my tranny rebuilt. Thanks ---

If you want to go that route, you need to find a 60e and just start with that.

Advantage is electrictronic shift points/line pressure. All adjustable via computer. No TV cable.

You would need a controller to run it.

yep, TCI is probably most commonly used controller. Good news is if you did that you would be ready for 80e much easier. GRIN.

You can buy 60e cores fairly cheap, just build one up, have it ready and afternoon swap.

They are about $650 on summit, and work with the 60 AND 80 :) ---

Re: Convert the 4l60 to a 4l60e?! ---

so if you had a new converter( i do ), a tci control unit ( i do), you can put the 60e in without any other mods????

since i will be going to to a carb style intake, with a wilson throttle body, then being able to delete the tv cable would be good...ie less fab work...

since i have a 02 z28 tranny with 8k miles i could use it til i have all the 80e parts avail...?? am i understanding this correctly?

what else would be required to make this work that i might be overlooking?

I sell the controllers for $650+shipping.
Summit and Jeggs sells them for $680 or $690+shipping.

Depends. Strength? No. Ease of adjustability, hell yah.

Sounds right to me. What about the tailshaft i think? You would need to swap it just like when starting with a 2wd 700R4, I assume.

You could make it work, but the LS1 style 60e is a little different. You would be better off getting a 4l60e from a 1996 or so vehicle (pickup or f body) It would have the proper bellhousing pattern and converter spacing etc and would be more of a bolt in to replace a 700.

so it would bolt right to the transfer case and slide in...

Nope...not that easy (is it ever in syty land?). The output shaft will need to be swapped from the 2wd F body piece to a 4wd piece which requires a complete disassembly of the trans.

well hell... anybody got an entire 80e setup???

Scroll down to the "Vendors" section on the main page and click on Prime Gears. George can have every piece you need shipped to your door...all you gotta do is put it in the truck.

Is the TCI controller a stand alone unit? or does it run in conjunction with the PCM?
