ET with stock heads

truck it!
Guys, Im hoping to get some feedback on what ET's in the 1/8th and/or 1/4 you guys are getting on stock heads. Im at the point that heads are the next logical choice for mods, but Im just not sure if I want to put the money into it right now. If anyone has some examples of improvement that you got going from stock heads to vortec's, that would be especially helpful. Please post the cam you are running also, and if the cam changed after you did heads.
BTW, Ive gone 11.90's on my current setup (stock heads and VERY mild emissions-legal cam,) but I was having a/f ratio issues also. Plus, it was 90+ degrees at the track. I have a programmable ECU now, so I have no doubt the truck is good for a few more tenths as it sits.
Thanks in advance.

Re: ET with stock heads

I hope to be at the local track this Saturday to make a couple first time passes with the 3,000 mile Sy if I can get off work in time. It still has the stock heads / intake and I am hoping for a high 10 - real low 11 sec NA pass (6.9 - 7.2 in the 1/8). Optimistic I know but the truck is anything but a slouch and that is running it in open loop!

Re: ET with stock heads

Thanks for the responses... Are both of those trucks running stock heads and cam even? Thats pretty impressive.

Re: ET with stock heads

I have recently done the swap. I have not had any track time yet but there is going to be a big difference. This is a mod that doesn't require a dyno to tell you that there is more power - you feel it!!! I did notice the truck became louder with a cam and head swap. I had been using no muffler. Put one of Mike Lee's stainless mufflers on and calmed the sound down.

I did 7.2 @97 1/8th with the stock head and cam.
that equates to nearly 11.2 in the quarter.. what are your other mods?

Re: ET with stock heads

I am curious, I have the following mods, stock vortecs, atr .60 turbo, atr 3 inch downpipe and exhaust with no cat, 42# injectors, electric fans, pulleys, accufab fuel pressure requlator, fuel pump, stg 10 n 1, rpm ata intercooler, built 700r4 w/2500 stall, I was wondering what kind of power i should see. I was also wondering how much a 3inch cowl hood will add??

Re: ET with stock heads

I had an un opened motor, 50#ultimate and 50# injectors, pt61, atr dp and wg, home made alki kit, under drive pullys, built trans, 3200 stall, and a fmic running 27-8 psi. I think thats it.

Phil longs motor was STOCK internal everything IIRC.
Phil is definately the benchmark for stock motors. Quite amazing what good tuning will do for you...

I agree, thats pretty strong too.

Thanks again for the input. Im thinking Im going to be content with low 11's hopefully and stay with stock for now.
