Looking for your opinions on AC deletion.

My AC dosn't work. No coolant left I would guess, probably a bad seal in the system.

Now since it originally had R-12 coolant and repairing and recharging the system will be a small fortune and the R-134A conversions are temporary at best, are there any drawbacks to stripping the AC all together. I mean since it doesn't work anyway?

only drawback is being a little warm on a hot day lol, taking it out def makes it alot easier to work on the engine.

The value of your truck will go down and you will be warm. I took mine off because it didnt work and its already a 130,000 mile truck so its not worth much as a stock truck anyways. It does look cleaner without it, it saves weight, and its a lot easier to get to a few things.

I bet you will gain a couple HP too....since the engine doesnt have to drive that extra pump ---

i remember reading that an A/C compressor consumes about 7% of your engine's power

BTW, i have the eliminator bracket, very easy working on that side of the motor.

Re: Looking for your opinions on AC deletion.

You can replace R-12 with no other changes or "conversion" by repairing the leak in your system and recharging the system with Auto Frost. It is a 100% compatible R-12 replacement (unlike R-134a), is cheaper than R-12, is E.P.A. legal and is actually "colder" than R-12 by several deg.!! You can add Auto Frost to existing R-12 to "top off" if your low. NO EXCUSE to toss the A/C due to the price of R-12 or refit to R-134a.

I use this stuff all the time and it realy is great! www.autofrost.com
