Front Diff Carnage (with pics)

Well finally got around to taking out the entire drivetrain on my clone and was pleseantly suprised when I pulled the front diff. I knew it was blown cause the previous owner had told me and when I got it what little fluid left was leaking out. All I can say is "WOW". Just look at the pictures you'll understand.

John's right. This image gives it away:

That is a CLASSIC sign of overheating damage from having no fluid/not enough fluid in it. Pinions in a trans and transfer caes will do the EXACT same thing from fluid starvation.

Nice box with a hefty payment. I pay 290 a month on my snap-on account, got it down to under 4,000 now though so thats exciting. :( Debt sucks.

Re: Front Diff Carnage (with pics)

GM ASEP program hooked me up. I can get any snap-on, matco, or SK tool at 50-60% off. I think I payed 3600 for the box and an 200 (or more cant remember) piece apprentice set of tools.

Re: Front Diff Carnage (with pics)

That round shaft is suppose to have teeth on it. :D I'm assuming that this was a 3.42. You can get the front diff out of a S series 4X4 with 3.42 gears and swap the right axle, axle tube and companion flange to install it in the Syclone.

When I was in ASEP in 97 you could only get 1 choice of box and 1 set of tools  bought it all, outgrew in in a year and bought a box like yours now ,but a 3 bank, and thank god I paid is off in 6 mos, cuz snap-on credit is crazy interest rates...oh yea, nice diff
