Anyone have a "Speed Wobble" problem

LIL QIK

HELL YEA I GOT BOOST!
Hey guys......got a little problem...

I just did the alignment, mounted the new wheels and put the solid motor mounts in and for some reason.....after doing all of this I seem to have a speed wobble problem at high speeds (90mph and up) and even at low speeds under acceleration if on unlevel road.

Just curious if any of you have come across this and if so, whether or not you got the problem fixed and what it was.

Now I know now that I have a little bit of slop in the steering gear box and a little play in my passenger tie rod. But I'm assuming that those problems were there before and I didn't suffer from the speed wobble before. Any help or comments are appreciated.

Thanks....Dave

I would imagine you will feel more engine vibrations out of the solid motor mounts :2cents:

Re: Anyone have a "Speed Wobble" problem

It isn't an engine vibration......it's literally a speed wobble. As in like we use to get riding a skate board down a hill. The wheels and tires are brand new. I wouldn't call it a vibration. I'd call it a wobble....as in your ass end having so much body roll back and forth that you think it's going to come around on you.

Thanks...

Do you have your old wheels/tires? I'd either switch them out or take your new combo and have them rebalanced - I had a set of new wheels/tires put on 2 weeks ago and the balancing was way off. maybe a weight fell off?

my high speed vibration ultimately came from the transfer case. as in vibration i mean it was like i was riding on the emergency lane of the highway when doing above 65mph.

i hate to be a thread jacker but here goes  , hey willyson when your transfer case was bad did it still vibrate when the front prop shaft was out ?

So this problem started when the new wheels/tires were installed? I'd take it back to the shop, but tell them it happens at highway speeds. If you tell them it happens at 90, they will tell you to not drive that fast.

If you have a way to measure the frequency, you can do some math and figure out what exactly is vibrating.

We're actually bolting the original wheels and tires back on tomorrow to see if that's associated with the problem. But I did recheck the balance on all the tires at a separate place to see if the balance was off.....but they were ok.

the next free step would be to remove the propshaft, but hopefully youll find it.

This is the only time I see a post from him with vibration in it.

Replace:

2-Upper Ball Joints
2-Lower Ball Joints
1-Idler Arm
1-Pitman Arm
2-Inner Tie Rod Ends
2-Outer Tie Rod Ends
2-Adjusting sleeves

That fixed my wobble.

Yea.....we're fixing to throw in the front coil over kit and replace anything that the kit doesn't. But won't be doing that until I get back from Malaysia. I leave Monday....so I guess all of this isn't a big deal until I get back.

I haven't done anything about it yet but let me know if you find a definite solution.

Well...when I get back....it's getting a completely new suspension for the front and rear along with a new quick ration gear box. That will cover every suggestion that I've had so far. If it's still there after that....then I'm not sure what I'm going to do.
