thats a 33" tire under mine. ive bgot a bit of room 1/2" all around :) need to do som lip trimming though.

See, that is my worry. I don't want the tire to flex when I launch and risk shredding my cladding. That would be a very bad thing :(

Re: Sonoma GT #737 Project Underway

you are going to have to trim the tab that goes into the inner fender on the rear corners. Mine ends at the fender lip. If you like i can take a picture.

Yes, that would be perfect, so I know exactly what will have to be done. :D

Re: Sonoma GT #737 Project Underway

OK! Time for an update!

First off, due to the fact that Qualafab has been having a hard time fitting me in with all of the orders that "veteren" customers have been making, I've decided to take the truck to the other shop that I had been considering. Qualafab is still going to be doing the cage and whatnot, but this guy does fine work and he's been around for years. So even though they don't have an official banner on their website for me to post up, Ta-Da! Here's another new sponser!

Copperhead Racing!

Art @ Copperhead already had a booth open in his shop, so last night we loaded the poor thing up and hauled it over there.

Today, when I got out of school, we loaded up the rest of the suspension parts and brakes and headed over there one more time and when I got there, he was already halfway done! :D

So far I'm incredibly happy with what I've seen, and Art is quite the character. He's also working on a choptop 49 merc', a 68 Charger R/T and 57 Cadillac with a 2007 L92 Escalade Engine. I managed to snap a couple pics of the Charger and Cadillac if anybody's interested. That's it for now, but I wouldn't be suprised if he had everything set up and ready before the wheels and tires get here!

I'm excited to get my backhalf under way. Just ordered my ladder bar rear clip from S&W last week...so not much longer now...

What are you doin for brakes?? Are you gonna street drive your truck at all?

Thanks! and for brakes in the rear I've got 12" Wilwood drilled and slotted. As for the front, we'll probably do the same thing using either some sort of LS1 conversion kit or a specialty kit from Wilwood themselves.

They're not quite as big as Marty's but hopefully they'll still serve their purpose well!

And yes, I do plan on driving the truck on the street, but only occasionally. And if gas keeps rising, it'll be only on special occasions!

Thanks for the support guys! :)

Just a small update, I ordered the rear wheels and tires last night. We went with the Convo Pro's that I posted up earlier, and Hoosier 29x18.5 DOT Drag Radials. The wheels have to be specialty-made because of the rear-spacing, but they're supposed to be done and shipped in 5 days. By that time, the frame guy should have all the suspension and differential/axle done! :myclone:

at this level i would go with a turbocharger in lieu of a supercharger,

way easier to turn up the boost..and i think low 9's are gonna require around 900-1000 hp

2600lbs cars will run 9's with 550rwhp.

Re: Sonoma GT #737 Project Underway *UPDATED!*

I just got a call from Copperhead about 15 minutes ago and for the most part everything's done! There's just 2 problems standing in our way....

1. The Brake Hats were made with 1/2" studs in mind, and we're using 5/8"... I'm waiting to hear back from Wilwood or S & W on this one...

2. They either forgot to, or didn't provide the backing plate bolts. They're just standard 1/2" bolts and I might be able to pick some up at NAPA or some other store....

I'll try and go snap some pics either today or tomorrow. Today I have to go finalize the deal with the wheels and tires, and get my line of credit all set up... I could only get the wheels with a 4 5/8ths backspacing instead of the 4 1/2 that is recommended, but an 1/8th of an inch shouldn't be hard to deal with, especially considering that the bed hasn't been tubbed yet.

Re: Sonoma GT #737 Project Underway *UPDATED!*

for the retainer plate bolts just use some good grade 8 hardware, they dont need any sepcial style.

what wheels are these if you can only get them in 4.625" back sapcing?

They're the Convo Pro's that I put up earlier on the first page. Can I just get those bolts at any hardware store?

Yes you can. I usually go to a Lowe's or Home Depot though because you can get the 20 bolt bargain back pretty cheaply

Nice! lol, there's a Lowe's not too far from here, and the hats won't be refinished until about six o' clock tonight. Oh... and I stole a couple peeks at the truck and it looks amazing.. I'll take the pics tonight when I drop the parts back off.
