Need Some Help Guys! Not use to stock Trucks! Boost issue?

My Friends Truck,

We are getting only like 2 lbs of boost. Replaced Boost solenoid, looks fine, all vacuum lines are in tack and not leaking, turbo is spinning but i don't think it feels like it should. checked wastegate that is working freely. As soon as you mat it the boost jumps right to 2 lbs and stays there, the fuel pressure jumps like it should so it is seeing boost but no boost over 2lbs.

Any advice will help me fix this truck. The turbo is old, the motor was just installed by me in Sept all new stuff installed except turbo and downpipe. The boost was working fine up too about 2 weeks ago.

Thanks in advance

you sure it can hold boost before the throttle body? check all your piping that feeds the boost

The engine "sees" the boost....are you sure its not boosting and the gauge is just broken? Sorry, but that was all I could think of .... or the turbo took a dump ---

Might sound dumb and you probably already checked BUT there might be something obstructing the air filter housing that was picked up off the road (like a plastic bag). The boot between the intake and the IC might also not be completely lined up although it looks good from the top. That was the issue with my Syclone after the ATR IC was installed. Looked right from the top but the bottom was not all the way on and she wasn't building but about 2-3 lbs.

Check for intake leaks first if that doesn't do it. Adjust the wastegate rod to the factory spec 3/4 pin overlap and bypass the wastegate solenoid. If the rod is too long it won't make even base boost.

Re: Need Some Help Guys! Not use to stock Trucks! Boost issue?

Hey guys thanks for the responses. I am not use to working on stock trucks. Well the turbo was working with a funning noise in it as it spooled up, no oil smoke or anything. The turbo is blowing air but it doesn't feel as strong as it should be. Now back in sept when i did the full engine swap for him everything looked fine. Well the gauge is working fine becasue it is right on with the vacuum pressure, I am think of trying a manual boost control valve and see if that changes anything.

Anyone coming to Swap Meet in NJ 2 morrow have a manual boost valve they can bring for me.

Don bring my fuel filter so i can get it back. We car heading down to a Car Hop/ Car Show after the Show in Howell for some dinner and just to hang out if your interested.

I will work on it more next weekend.

Thanks
Ralph

Can you set these trucks up "tuner style" like the GNs ? Just loop the wastegate to the compressor side of the turbo bypassing the the WG solenoid ..It works great in the GNs only gives about 12lbs of boost

that will give him 8-10lbs of boost. I would remove the rod and check for wastegate movement, then bypass solenoid by doing above. If you get boost that way then you have a bad solenoid.

Best Guess....Exhaust is clogged, check for bent tubing, clogged cat. Also, make sure the turbo is sealed? you know eh?

All exhaust is new! "Except Downpipe" New 3" cat, muffler and piping from downpipe back. So i may Take the turbo off and look at it or at least check for play in it.

I am going to check the turbo out, and wastegate and see if i can't find it.
