Injector removal

What do I need to remove to get my injectors out? Obviously the upper IC and the rails, but what else is in the way?? Throttle body? I'm just trying to find out if I need to get some gaskets for anything, or any other special parts before I start.

Re: Injector removal

You might also need to take out the coil/map sensor bracket, you don't need any other gasket. Mines is a bitch, takes about 2hr and some bloody nuckles.

Re: Injector removal

Remove upper IC & TB. Almost not worth it otherwise. There's a upper intake bolt underneath. Upper intake comes off. Remove the fuel supply line and the fpr. 4 bolts holding the rail (2 each side, one under the fpr) the wiring harness and they're out. If first time they'll be stuck pretty good but the rail is what holds them in so pry gently but firmly.

Re: Injector removal

make sure to have plenty of o-rings for the injectors, I must have pinched and ruined half a dozen before they seated right, even after lubing the crap out of em'!!

My ass. Look at it.
Re: Injector removal

Just a though...

If you go ahead and remove the upper intake as well, now is a good time to do some deep cleaning and porting

Re: Injector removal

Hmmm, I leave the MAP. 15 mins? WOW! O-rings can be bought at parts store, Yes, you'll prolly nuke a few. Use correct o-rings. NAPA 2-12085 or equiv.

I swapped my injectors out last week. The job wasn't as bad as I had imagined. I just removed the IC and the TB and the bolts that hold the fuel rail and was able to get enough clearance to replace them without removing the upper intake.

Re: Injector removal

I was trying not to remove the upper intake. Checking online at my local parts stores, I can't find the intake gaskets. I wouldnt want to ruin one and not have a replacement handy.

6 or so bolts for upper IC

4 mini screws for fuel rails

its been awile so maybe a 25 minutes,i'm sure I fortgot something... but I don't even see how it could take that long unless its your first time...first time changes everything.

Re: Injector removal

That was a compliment BTW. I find it easier to remove the FPR from the rail, leaving the return line attached, to get to that last bolt on the rail. Like a lot of things on these trucks once you've done it once it ain't quite as bad as it seems.

SBNova: Upper intake gaskets are avail last time I checked. Might have to order it. Reminder: Change ALL inj o-rings. Save yourself allot of trouble. Also, after injs and fuel rail is installed run the fuel pump to check for leaks. (Experience talking.)

Re: Injector removal

Ok, I just switch injectors, took 1hr from take out and put back, did not have to take out the BT or intake.
Driver side easiest:
Romove the coil baracket and move the map sensor out of the way.
Then the fuel line into the rail and the 2 bolt holt the rail down.
Pop that biatch out and its done.

Passanger side:
I have a2a, i didn't have to take anything out, you would have to remove the upper ic.
Disconnect the injectors, temp sensor, boost solonoid and Ac harness and move it out of the way.
Take out the 2 bolt that hold the rail down and pop the rail off.

Took pic for you..

Re: Injector removal

That upper intake to lower intake gasket comes in a set, I believe mine were victor renz. I don't think it comes seperately.

oh I know thanks ;)

apart from what I listed and I did forget the FPR...its pretty straight forward. Like you said, do it a few times and it gets 100 times easier. Do it the first time and it seems impossible.

Don't the WS6's have to remove the tranny for one spark plug? lol

Re: Injector removal

I think I will try it with the Upper IC in place. The gasket set is $47.49 at Napa!!!!

http://napaonline.com/masterpages/NOLMaster.aspx?PageId=470&LineCode=NGA&PartNumber=MS16154&Description=Manifold+Gasket+Set+(Intake)

Autozone has intake gaskets for $12.99, but the upper to lower isnt in the picture and for that price I'm sure its not included.

RockAuto.com wants $39, plus shipping.
