Got beat from a roll. Modded 06 STI

Seen an STI behind me at a light,so I spooled it up and launched sideways when the light turned green.Left his ass back there.

I slow down and he pulls up beside me all 6 grand in 3rd gear,so I get on it and he pulls a couple cars on me.

We pull over and talk.Cool kid. He has some mods and is running 17 psi.I'm like hell I don't even know what I'm running. So I tell him to jump in the Ty and go for a spin.

Get out and go WOT.

10 psi. Okay that explain it,got it cranked all the way down, per usual. Go wide open again and bump it up to 15. Feels much better.

So anyway, the moral of this story is don't race from a roll off idle on 10 psi, cause you might get beat.

Re: Got beat from a roll. Modded 06 STI

I've been working on a local guy's 06 STI. Did a entire body kit for him, then this spring did the big ball bearing turbo,3.5" exhaust,ss headers, Front mount ect ect. It's got less than 7000mi on the car and he's having a stroker built block done now that we will install this fall. He's shooting for over 700awd hp. It's at 400whp now on a awd dyno.

It's a ok car to work on...

Have a re-match with yours setup on kill. :)

You going to the homecoming?

700AWHP in a STi?

He best start looking for

new ecu
new engine
new heads
new transmission
new axles
new diffs
meth/alcohol injection
and one hell of a big turbo
at the very minimum

none of the stock parts will take or produce 700whp

Before I bought my Sy I was going to boost the WHP on my STi

I spent about 2 years planning the build and by the time I had it all figured out and financed I began to see that the STi won't take a great deal of power without changing atleast the things I mentioned.
For parts that can handle 500 whp your looking at around $40,000 in cash on top of the price of the car.

To me it began to look like a waste of money because, for the price of the STi + the upgrades just to run 500whp you can buy a new Nissan GT-R when it comes out ... that is what I am considering doing.

I love my STi and the way it drives but 700whp is a pipe dream,
there are porbably 2 maybe 3 shops in the world producing that level of horse power in a STi none that I know of in a street driven car and none for less than $50,000.

unless the guy is planning to drop atleast $50,000-$60,000 in to a car that will never be worth more than $30k he isn't going to take the car much further than 400whp even if he is, if he wants it streetable and reliable he willl not see anything much over 500whp.

Here is how a STi with a $50,000 build runs when tuned by one of the best in STi tuning.

Spend 60k might as well buy a new RS4 and throw some goodies on it.

I decided to buy a Syclone, mod it up nice and invest the rest then buy a 2009 Nissan GT-R instead. :rotf:

Maby you missed the part in my post where I listed a built stroker or built block that he is having built right now. He's going to be running aftermarket ECU and two sets of injectors per cyl. one for idle one for the rest since apparently the idle can't be tuned out with that big of injector. He's got the money to do it all..> Also has all the upgraded axels, clutch, ect ect. I'm not a STI expert but might know a thing or two by the time this project is done this fall. You'd have to ask him the details since I'm not actually ordering the parts. I'm just in charge of doing the install once the engine ect is done.

Re: Got beat from a roll. Modded 06 STI

No I seen you said a stroker motor..

Hope it is not a Crawford motor :rotf:... If he wants a stroker he needs to look at an Axis motor.

If your friend is really expecting to see 700 awhp he should take a quick read thru this link. you can see about what it takes to make what kind of power with an STi.
http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=700004

I personally don't think 700AWHP is realistic for a STi on an accurate dyno.
Off the top of my head I can only think of 2 STi's running 700+awhp both are purpose built drag cars and neither are street legal.

FWIW

The motor in the link I posted earlier putting out 530whp on meth and 91 octane is a
Cosworth Longblock. w/ Cosworth Billet Crank, Cosworth Cams and full Cosworth internals. That engine can rev safely to 9000 RPM. (it is the engine I was going to order for mine)
Full exhaust, manifold,up pipe, downpipe, injectors, turbo ,ECU, meth, intake, Intercooler, fuel pump,etc..
It is a full build using the very best parts money can buy, tuned by a guy considered by many to be one of the best in STi tuning and on race gas that build didn't put out 700AWHP.

Pushing 500AWHP with meth would put your friend in a VERY exclusive group of people and be a hell of a fun car to drive.
I suspect that is where your friend will end up on a dyno chart.

I was looking at $44,000 to get my 05 STi to 500WHP and considering what is available for $71,000 ($44k cash + blue book on my STi) it just didn't seem worth it.

Re: Got beat from a roll. Modded 06 STI

I sent him a link to this post..... I'll let you two guys discuss what he's up to exactly. Maby you can help him pick out some of the correct stuff he needs. I'm just the install guy...

Thanks for the info!

i appreciate your concern, but it can be done for substancially less than what you priced previously. it is easy to just throw money at a project, but nit pcking can save you thousands.

]

new ecu-done
new engine-check, sleeved and built to the hilt
new heads-green light, did i mention fully worked?
new transmission-no need for 700, unless your looking to cut your 1/4 time by changing gearing 1-4 (see ppg dog box :) )
new axles- roger, but stockers will take a lot proved one knows how to drive
new diffs- not needed, again unless you dont know how to drive
meth/alcohol injection- if you plan to run high boost on 91, which is idiotic anyway, there are other safer ways around this
and one hell of a big turbo-in da house!

at the very minimum

you also missed some very key components- eg. upgraded fuel system with external surge set up, wider wheels, and an aluminum drive shaft to absorb shock. modified boost control (believe it or not i run a gm boost solenoid) twin disc clutch, and pitching the stock mounts as they suck!

Why do it? because any bafoon can buy a car that goes fast. If i wanted to just buy a fast car id have a z06 or an srt10. There is a price to pay for being your own person, each of us has to decide that on their own.

none of the stock parts will take or produce 700whp-

am i the only one here saying duh? Thanks Captian obvious! I wouldnt know what to do without you.
