Bees have taken over the ty

I noticed today that there were about 6-8 yellow jackets surrounding my passenger side head light. I sprayed them with the hose and stomped them out. I looked all over for the nest but couldnt find any. I figured I had gotten them all but they keep coming back. I guess water doesnt really work but I dont wanna spray something on the truck that will mess up the paint. Any ideas??

Re: Bees have taken over the ty

I like to use brake cleaner, but check first if this might harm the paint finish. The cleaner will freeze them on the spot, and might have some in the shop, heck it is even cheaper then bee spray

I usually use brake cleaner to kill pretty much everything, however I think it will hurt the paint :dunno:

Since purchasing my Typhoon from some field in Kansas, I have found at least 15 mini Wasps nests. Fortunately all of them died in the cold since I bought the truck in March.

Shouldn't be that hard to track down where they're going if you're seeing that many at once. I'd just nuke 'em and rinse it down, but I can see the back of my headlight (not stock).

Edit, not "brake cleaner nuke 'em", just some "knock down" spray crap in an aerosol can. WD works, but doesn't have much range (if a battle ensues).

WD-40 is an awesome idea! Thanks IDK why I didnt think of that. If a battle ensues i'll just make sure I have my zippo lit in front of the wd-40  I will be extra careful not to torch the ty though :rotf: Thanks for the help guys!!

Oh and by the way after the first time I sprayed them and moved my truck I looked all over it and couldnt find anything. I guess i'll have to look harder

This reminds me of last year when I went to get a fuel tank hanger assy from a 93TAHOE in the JY last summer. There was a good size nest under the truck right where I was working. I tried to work around it but there was this one bolt I couldnt get off and in order to do so, I had to stick my hadn up in there where the wasp was standing gaurd it seemed. I ended having to leave and go buy some bee killer. It was nerve racking even after that. Are you absolutely sure there is no nest? Ill bet $100 there is and they just hid it well from ya.

Recently, there was a yellowjacket nest in the metal arm of our basketball net. Every time my kid would hit the backboard, the YJs would come out looking for trouble. Very dangerous.

I covered the entrance hole with one of the big decals I got in the "goodie bag" at Homecoming ;) , then sprayed another opeining with WINDSHIELD DE-ICER. Poof...dead. Worked like a charm...instantly. Not recommended for painted surfaces, btw.

I use it to and it melted some styrafoam i had in the rafters of my garage....
