e-fan temp switch location?

I finished installing my new e-fan and related harness everything looks good except for one thing. The temp switch for the e-fan I put in the port on the water outlet neck, but I just noticed that the sensor sits very close to the thermostat. My concern is when the thermostat opens the sensor will block it from opening fully. Anyone else have this problem? The temp switch sensor is so much longer than it needs to be!!!

You have not been "black flagged" that I'm aware of, or at least I never remember hearing your name come up at the weekly "Black Ball" meeting...... :rotf: . Socal, there is no such thing so don't get all up set :( .. I just saw your post and I must admitt that it's slightly "out of the norm", plus it's only been posted for 1 day (sometimes takes a while for the rite people to see / get here).

To anwser your question, no I have never seen this. The t-stat is inclosed, i.e. it will only open so far and no more, then some stat's have a small "bar" across the top and some don't but you may want to check (just to be sure that) you don't have it upside down. the spring / longer side of the stat usually sets into the intake and has very little "sticking up" into the water neck. Many stats are marked "this side up" etc. and as long at the sensor is not actually touching the stat I think your ok. Also there are different configurations and physical sizes of sensors, some are quite short. May need to check values and swap?
Hope that helps.

Re: e-fan temp switch location?

Doesn't sound like it will be an issue.

Also consider using one of the plugs in the pass side head as your temp sensor location.

Hope this helps

Re: e-fan temp switch location?

I have the dual "ramcharger" type fan setup. They pull too many amps to use any kind of aftermarket controller. I've melted a controller and two fuse holders. Never popped a fuse. Just melts the holders. I have them wired for full pull all the time, probably contributes to the issue but I wanted more cooling capacity.

Re: e-fan temp switch location?

The dc controllers ramp up the amps as needed so you don't get the initial spike during startup which may be what's causing all the melted wires etc with efans
