Vibration and uncontrollable shaking problems

I've read several threads of trucks with similar issues but these threads never seem to have resolutions/fixes at the end of them. :(

Problem: Shakes almost uncontrollably at 45-55mph. Below 35mph it's 100% fine above 65mph it's much better also.

Note: It continues to shake when I put the Sy in Neutral and back in Drive at those speeds. From this I surmise it is not engine related.

Background on my Sy:
35k miles
Stock wheels
New tires
Just aligned last week
Front end showed no play at time of alignment
Not lowered, no modifications (yet!)
Steering is not precise (I believe this is normal in Sy's) but I do not believe this is contributing.

I had this horrendous shaking issue BEFORE I got new tires and an alignment. It started a few weeks before I got the alignment and was one of the main reasons I got it.

on a scale of 1 to 10 how bad is this shake? have you experienced a bent wheel shake before? i posted on the other thread that my high speed vib ended up being the transfer case, but i had true vibrations that were unbearable, like 8~9 out of 10. id check out some of the other possible problems, and the fluid levels in th drivetrain, before the xfer case as its rather expensive

Pull your front propshaft and take it for a drive.

You may try it in diffrent gears maybe from 45-65 you are in 3rd??? check for that maybe no shake in 2nd shake in 3rd no shake in 4th

That would be trans problem

It's a solid 8 or 9 sometimes. The thing is that it is not consistant. It doesn't do it 100% of the time at those speeds but when it does, you better hold on. There is enough force to throw cups out of the cupholders.

Since it is not 100% of the time, that's why I do not think it is wheel/tire related. I could be wrong though.

Good idea, I will try this just to try to rule other issues out. I fully expect it to continue though, if I put it into neutral and it still shook doesn't that mean the tranny is not the issue?

You got it right, my front propshaft is shot. When the truck was up on a lift today, it was quickly evident. The boot was ripped and grease was slung out...

Time to investigate my options... I'm not sure what they are at this point. The mechanic checked with GM and the part was $2500 and they would not accept it back if it was the wrong part.

10x better than the stock shaft and 2000 cheaper

I have one and would boost launch for pinks knowing it would hold. plus my shaft only had 36k on itwas not worn but the new shaft did make it feel alot smoother.

just my :2cents:

My propshaft quit at 34k miles.

I'm searching now but is it a true bolt on piece? Just unbolt the existing shaft and put the new one on? Has anyone made cf propshafts?

Also, what's the difference between the Gilbert and PG shafts? I can go with a PG shaft for $413 or a used Gilbert style for $300.

PG is bigger/stronger and has no boot. The Gilbert has a very good reputation though. If you are looking for a stock replacement I have one I will let go.

If I remeber I think I had to replace the yoke on the front axle

Mine vibrates at between 70 and 75 mph. Above and below that it's right as rain.

My old S-10 Blazer did the same thing though. Vibration around the 70 mph mark and not anywhere else on the speedo.
