Sy Vs IS350

Went by my dads house to find a 2007 Lexus IS350 in the driveway. Its fully loaded 47k lexus with the 306hp 3.5L. I had my sy with my new bike in the back and he asked for a run. I have to tell you my dad used to build race car engines in the 70's and 80's and used to have a 10 sec camaro. He knows how to drive. I figured he is old and its a lexus. :rotf: Nice car BTW.
We set up a few blocks away. I told him to go when he was ready. He took off and I did also. No boost launch. Took me till about 40mph to over take him. We went to 80 and shut off. My truck is not running 100% yet so I was taking it easy. Plus I had a bike in the back. We set up one more time. This time I boosted to 8lbs. I took him by 2 bus lenghts easy and shut off again at 80.
For a 4 door lexus I was impressed. It was quick. No match for a mild modded Sy but it was fun. I lifted my hood and my dad was shocked as he never seen a Sy before. He was happy I did the work and I told him I learned it all from him. I said "see dad I did pay attention to you when I was a kid" It was nice to see him smile. He has been through a lot. 9 back surgerys and he still needs a cane to walk. He was proud and I was too to see him in sucjh a nice car. I spent my childhood on section 8 low income housing.

Re: Sy Vs IS350

I think a lot of us on here learned from our dads.

I know my dad has been THE reason I know what I know. Sure I went to engineering school, learned some things about machining/welding he didn't about, but the basics of cars and the never give up and not be afraid to do it yourself came from him.

This year will be extra fun at nats for me, as he is flying out to join me. Being we now live 2500 miles away we don't get to spend the time toghether like we did.

1 of several reason I want my ty done for nats.

How could I not comment on this thread?

Did he have the traction control on or disabled? It makes a big difference in acceleration from a standstill. Also, did he have the "power" button pressed? It quickens the IS350's shifts. When you do that you can get to 60mph under 5 seconds.

The '06 models had to go through a special pre-startup sequence to turn the traction control off. I think the '07's have a button now.

Do you know how hard it is to keep 3 black cars clean???

Re: Sy Vs IS350

he has had it since may. I am sure he has figured it out. He used to race and build funnycars back in the day.
Its a 07. fully loaded. Nice silver car. The keyless entry and push button start was cool. Like I said with no boost he had me off the line till 40mph. On a boost launch he had no chance. My truck is not stock and the DM says I am hitting 0-60 in about 3.8 sec. on a boost launch.

You getting a little more confident with the project since the new program went in? As long as you think you won't hurt the engine, go out and play some. Take your wife with you and do some boost launches. It'll make her feel 16 again....boost launches are addictive.

Cool, so you got your leak fixed then? Let me know when you want to do Infineon Wednesday Night Drags. I think my tranny is on it's way out again damnit. Getting real bad TC shudder on what feels like the 3-2 downshift when I'm turning left. The whole truck shakes and feels like something might fall out in the street. It doesn't always do it, but I'm pretty sure it's a sign of worse things to come. I drained some fluid from the pan today and it was crystal clear and didn't smell bad at all. I added a fresh bottle of LubeGard red and it still did it again after that...agh. I'm so fed up with these POS clunky-shifting POS 700R4 transmissions, I could puke. When it goes (shouldn't be long), I'm going with a 4L80E from George...how's the tranny feel now?

Re: Sy Vs IS350

leak is still there. I am just driving it that way. I put a bunch of sealant around the lower just to see if it will fix it for now. I will pull the lower this winter. The trans shifts great. I got the computer to hook up with the trans now.

Re: Sy Vs IS350

I thought it was the oil pressure fitting that was leaking, not the lower intake? You want that thing shifting closer to 4000RPM...my 1-2 is at 4200 and 2-3 is 4775. IS350 costs $47K? That's ridiculous.

That color blue is awesome in person. I have pics I took from the Houston auto show back in January. It's better looking than Viper blue.
