Purest or out in left field with your ST/TY??

I was just wondering how may are purest, and just want to leave your SY/TY as it came from the factory. And how many just want to do stuff to it (i.e. paint, wheels, suspension, etc.) to make it stand out from the rest? I have a few things I would like to do to my TY, but I get a guilty conscious for thinking it sometime, lol.

Change it up, wheels, suspension, tonneau, etc.

Stock, stock, stock....my Ty could be an AC Delco display....with exception of a couple of ISTA stickers. I won't say never, but don't have any plans to change anything from what it was from factory. I know...I'm a dying breed. If you ever change anything, KEEP your stock parts, regardless of $, it may mean a lot years down the road

I'm just trying to make mine better, using current technology. A little more horsepower is a goal as is trying to make it just a little different from others. But, I'm keeping ALL stock parts so that someday a new owner can put it back stock if that is the goal...

Same here. Still has factory hoses. I'm changing out the aftermarket stereo previous owner put in and putting in a stock unit. I already took out the 2" blocks and returned to near-stock height. I've got KYB's, but am considering putting back the air-rides.

All my vehicles have been stock. I've been happy with how fast all of them have been. I don't need an 11 second car. Plus, I'm not all that mechanical so don't tweak things I can't fix.

My Ty already was modified when I purchased it, added ST swaybar, Bilstein Sports, changed the heighth some when the ZR-1's went on. I plan on a repaint and of course I would like to double the horsepower when do a rebuild.

When I get another Sy/Ty, the 4.3 and 700R4 is coming out.

Mod, mod, mod, mod.

Though, all the old parts will be kept for originality.

Re: Purest or out in left field with your ST/TY??

What makes the sy and ty so uniqe is not ony how quick it is from the factory but how little it takes to make it even quicker. It's almost like modifying it is the whole point of owning one. Not to mention to replace problematic parts/desighn flaws with better parts and a better desighn so as to make the vehicle more reliable. AKA fix what the manufacture screwd up in the first place!

For example, I recall years ago talking with someone that was in on the design of the syclone and how they wanted to put on better heads, but GM didn't want to spend the money. How about that intake over the radiator, who thoght of that jeez. Don't forget about those medal water hose lines for the intercooler exchanger.

Everyone will face the problem one day of needing a part that hasnt been made for years . As long as its still an awd turbo 6 , does it really matter ?

Mod it, break it, mod it more, break it again, mod it even crazier, realize how much $$ you wasted, lose interest, sell it :rotf:

If its high mileage I say mod it but if I had a low mileage truck I wouldnt have touched it except for basic upgrades.

Re: Purest or out in left field with your ST/TY??

My theory is, the trucks were built to be driven. Hard. So, drive it and enjoy it, if that means modding it then go for it. I drew the line on mine at making mods that are irreversible.

My truck was already driven into the ground once, and I brought it back for round two... I plan on driving it until I can't keep it running anymore  (150k and going strong)

My Sy (19,800 miles) has everything stock from the factory...even the tires, plugs and wires. The only thing that has been changed is the battery and oil....I think even the air in the tires is original.

My Ty has been modifiedd a bit..BOV, lowered 2" front and back. I drive the Ty more, but I wish I had more time to do so.

You'll see a couple of FL trucks and it wont take you long to do something. Im sure Ian would gladly take you for a ride in his very mild mod Sy that hauls nuts, that'll change your mind.

I dig both worlds. I love seeing clean untouched trucks, but also like to see them modified with keeping a stock apperance.

If I don't drive it why do I have it? I drive my stuff in a way that you experience some or most of the performance it's capable of. When it breaks it's just an excuse to make it better. More Power! arrghhh arrghhh arrghhh

Keeping it as stock as possible. IC pump and solid motor mounts are the only things I have done to it.
