Took mufflers off today....

and I've got to say it makes a nice difference...not so much in power but more in terms of idle. For the first time, the thing actually idles pretty well...not perfect but certainly better.

The sound is kind of cool but the drone will get old. I plan to order an RPM system soon after some more evaluating.

All in all I was really impressed with how easy it was to get off...10 minute solo in my garage.

Question, after taking off the mufflers (cat on), I took it for a spin. Nailed it, took off great but right during the first to second shift, pop, engine fluttered a bit and then all is fine. Drove it for another 20 miles over the next couple hours and no problems. Was this detination (sorry, I don't know the exact meaning)?

Thanks,

Vince

mine does the same thing, it almost sounds like i'm blowing a boost hose off or something, it just pops, but all is fine. i know what my detonation sounds like, and its not that. I dont know.

I imagine it's overboosting. It cuts out when the computer sees too much boost. The stock wastegate has a hard time keeping up when you remove some of the exhaust.

So is this a bad thing for the motor?

Re: Took mufflers off today....

That was overboost and it is not good for the motor. Adjusting the WG rod will probably take care of the overboosting, but the stock WG is marginal at best once you start modifying these trucks with low restriction exhausts, more boost, etc.

Any direction to doing this to the wastegate?
